Has anyone tried tinting the top part of the windshield? I am contemplating in doing this because of the texture behind the rearview mirror, but maybe it would be ok.

Could be an angle, but that does not look like 30%. I've just seen 35% and this is a huge difference. Are you sure they didn't put 20% by accident?

You know what... I think you're right. I just looked at the sticker they're suppose to install on the driver's side and it does say 20. My invoice from them says 30. I still like it, tho. :D

Could be for legal purposes that your invoice says 30. As a matter of fact in the past I would not even get an invoice if I tint below 35%.

I would suggest doing darker than you normally would as the interior is very light in color (and the windshield is large) and it will not be as dark as you think... as in 18% all around...

Man I missed this. +100! I got 35 all around and it's not dark at all.

Turbo which shop did you use for the tint?
I'm assuming you would recommend them to other LEAF's in Phoenix?

This story ran today concerning window tints in washington state:

Looks like they are starting to be more active enforcing the tint laws.

That's in Sunnyside... I wouldn't worry about it in our area. I've had windows tinted at 20% all around for the past 11 years and no problem. As a matter of fact I got pulled over a few month ago driving in a carpool lane, officer thought I was by myself and his comment was only "Sorry, I didn't see that you had a passenger there".

I was wondering how hardnose they will actually be enforcing it, with all the other cell phone, front plate, horn honking, etc. laws that they routinely overlook...
You pay your money and take your chances, I suppose.

Had my windows tinted with 20% all around with SunTek Carbon and it appears slightly lighter then a stock tint on our CUV probably due to interior color. I wouldn't worry about getting a ticket, it's definitely not a "gangsta" type of darkness.

Please post some pictures with front, rear and side views. I'd like to do 20% all around, but am concerned about getting stopped here in AZ.

Sure, I'll take some pictures, keep in mind that not all tints are the same so 20% of non metallic (the one I have) tint might look different then metallic. I kind of wish I should've gone with 15% on the rear windows and back, but oh well.

This is a serious window tinting NOOB question... but is 20% darker than 30% or the other way around?

20% is darker and going with 30% is not going to give you much darkness if that's what you are going for and it's still illegal.

According to this page:

http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/CA/

It says:
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.

I presume that's a 30%?

Generally it's 35% that considers legal, but if you want to get technical:

Source: http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html

Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:

The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.

Malcolm and I had both our Leafs tinted at Alvin-O's in San Diego on Ronson Road in Kearny Mesa...They did all the windows except the windshield (that's 9 of them total on the Leaf). He uses Solargard products and you have your choice of a few shades. He stocks the HP Charcoal line.

Note that when you pick up the car, there are lots of water bubbles in the tint from installation and they evaporate away when the car is in the sun over the next few days. They recommend not rolling the windows down for a few days...It's been one week for me...

I took a photo this morning and it didn't come out the greatest, so maybe I'll replace it later. But here's what it looks like....
