Spring rubbing noise from the acceleration pedal box

In the last couple days there is a spring rubbing noise when we press the acceleration pedal. It seems to come from the black box where the pedal pivots. Everything is functioning fine, but I am just worried if that spring comes loose and jams the pedal. The car is due for the one year battery check, will have the dealer look at it. Any thoughts?

If you get the same result with the car turned off, then it must be a mechanical issue.

There's not much to this pedal, just a spring and a sensor or two, so your guess is probably right.

I believe the accelerator is canceled the moment you apply the brakes, so you should be safe, even if it were to get stuck.
