An extra double-thanks to those who stayed to help clean up.

Dori did a great job of hosting, but most were too busy
to notice her freshly-popped popcorn, little brown
"bird dropping" things (they tasted chocolate), and water.

Since most were on good behavior, we are likely to be
invited back at some later date.

After the next Gathering, we might plan a second workshop,
perhaps somewhere in Tustin, to finish, test, and re-program.
But, this is still Totally Tentative. Any suggestions?

I've got a bunch of work to do just to get ready for the final steps! Looking forward to the next workshop.

I can't offer much for location suggestions... they would all be too far for most participants.

Gary, I second that emotion! I had great fun and was honored to have hosted Chris' inaugural workshop. I agree too that a follow up meet to finish up our projects is a good idea. I WILL let that poopie reference  slide and offer up our office for any future events gladly. Richard and Phil posted great pics. And thanks to Chris, Gary, everyone who came out, built, then returned the office to it's "pristine" state. Thanks all! Dori

A week and a day, but not too far away, we Gather our LEAFs
at Hometown Buffet in Santa Ana, on 17th street just 2 blocks
East of I-5. I plan to be there from about 8 AM to 11 AM.

You do not need a LEAF (or any other EV) to join us, just a
kind spirit, some curiosity about E-things, and the desire
to share with other like-minded folks.

Does anybody still need to work on their OpenEVSE project?
I don't have mine done yet. We would need a place to work.

Cheers, Gary

I would be interested in continuing the build workshop. I hope to have mine ready for testing by Saturday assuming there are no snags.

See y'all in St. Ana.

Unfortunately, we're not available this Saturday. Also, looks
like there is no longer a need for a follow-up workshop in January?
Since the first batch, is anyone else (local) expected to order
an OpenEVSE kit?

I traded in my LEAF for a RAV4 EV last week (needed more range!), so I'll be bringing some LEAF parts to the gathering for sale: OEM Rim + Ecopia 422 tire, no TPMS (with ~10K miles of life left), rear cargo cover, gidmeter, cabin filter, sheepskin seat covers.
Bob

We are trying to make an SOC-Meter for the Rav4 EV, and just captured
our first logs today. I will bring these logs to the meeting.
So, you might want to keep your GID-Meter for future use with the Rav4.
We captured data from the front OBD connector, and from the rear
DLC3 (split tab OBD) connector.

I suspect that we do want a workshop in January, some want to
finish building, some want to start, and most want to re-program
their OpenEVSE.

Maybe one of the folks with the capability to reflash the OpenEVSE Plus
could attend our Gathering this Saturday in Santa Ana, and bring their
programming "tools" with them.

I would like to get the same ability on my Windows Vista Laptop.

Chris was going to send me a zip file of all the necessary components,
including the libraries and source code for the OpenEVSE Plus, but
berhaps he has been too busy to get it together.

In any case, I will bring a flash drive, my laptop, and a programmer.

See you Saturday, in just about 1.4 days.

See you all in a little over 9 hours.
No formal workshop, but maybe some looking,
etc. where it is needed.

I will bring some tools, including an Anderson crimper.

Cheers, all, I am already hungry.

A very good Gathering, with about 9 present.
A's Volt (traded in his LEAF), B's Rav4-EV, and about 5 LEAFs.

January meetings will be the 5th and 19th, unless there are
other suggestions or serious conflicts. Hopefully I will be able
to attend both.

After the Gathering in Cerritos on the 5th, we will again meet
for a workshop continuation, to attempt to finish building the
OpenEVSE Plus projects, test, and re-program them.
If possible, try to arrive with your RGB LCD display board built.

Does that sound OK?

See ya for the workshop.

Report from Saturday's EVAOSC Meeting.

Very interesting program scheduled at the last minute. RealPower gave a presentation followed by a demonstration of their Mobile DC QC truck. They are a subsidiary of a tier-1 auto parts manufacturer. They offer a truck modified with a Power Take Off from the truck's transmission to drive their own 3-phase generator which powers an Eaton 50 kW DC QC. The Eaton has been re-packaged to fit on the back of the flatbed without exceeding the height of the cab. Efficiency of 95% is claimed.

They said the reason we have not seen the AAA QC truck in action is that their technology does not work because it can't deliver steady 60 Hz power. The RealPower design does deliver reliable pure sine-wave 60 Hz power with high quality. I charged my LEAF through their CHAdeMO cable with no problem. In the next few months Eaton will be testing the same system equipped with a different software package and cable for SAE DC Combo Plug. No problem with the non-isolated SAE design. So far AAA is resisting buying the RealPower truck because AAA wants to own the technology. Price for complete truck, generator, and DC QC all integrated is $95K.

Today, Sunday, I took in the Space Shuttle Endeavor and Cleopatra exhibits at the California Science Center. Both exhibits were excellent. Endeavor exhibit included a reconstructed Rocketdyne engine control center.
I was able to get a full charge on L2 with one of the ChargePoint stations in the museum parking lot.

Tom,
Sounds like you are doing well with getting around during your
recovery. We all wish you a completely successful result.
I would like to get up to see those exhibits myself.
Cheers, Gary

Yes, I am very grateful that I have so much energy right now, and "leakage" almost done. Next blood test early February.

We had to wait in line about 30 min for entrance into the Cleopatra exhibit, and the walk-through can take at least another hour, which was tiring.
Cleopatra was interesting, with nice audio narration in Cleopatra's own words. The exhibit matches the statues and artifacts recently discovered underwater in and near what was her palace with the history. They found what they think is one rare statue of her because Octavious ordered her images destroyed. It closes in January.

There was no wait for the Endeavor exhibit, and we spent 30-40 minutes in its building.

Next week Christmas visiting friends in Pagosa Springs, CO. Temps into the wee digits overnight.
