I've submitted my application for the HOV lane access (DMV form REG-1000) to use on the Bay Bridge HOV lane, however I just found the ZEV Parking Decal Application (DMV form REG-4048).

From what I've read, there are benefits at LAX and in Sacramento, but nothing in the Bay Area.

Does anyone know if there are advantages (yet) to getting this sticker right away?

Interesting - I saw the EV spots at SFO, and may use them - do they require a sticker? I figured if I plug in they would get that it is an EV.

I parked at the OAK airport last week and charged up without a sticker - but the EV spots and chargers are in their "Premier" lot that costs $34/day.

Where is the charger at SJC? I went to pick up my mother-in-law (from Texas) convinced that I'd be able to top up. I needed to since I would have to climb 1800' up Hwy 17 to get home. Much to my chagrin, I couldn't find one. So after I got her, we had to sit a the charger at Coulomb (in Campbell) for an hour to get enough to get up the hill. Got home with 9 miles on the guess-o-meter...

I REALLY could have used the charge at the airport. I'm sure that my Texan in-laws will be rubbing my nose in the fact that we had to sit there for an hour...

I don't think you need it except at parking spaces that explicitly require it, and I'm not sure there are any of those in the Bay Area right now. I requested one anyway, because I assume it might be required in the future.

Near the north end of the parking garage for terminal A, on the first floor. It's very close to the two north-most baggage carousels. There are two stations there, one paddle and one Avcon. I have to admit I "cheated" once by plugging in there when I didn't really need to, just to get a good parking space when I picked up my wife who came in on Hawaiian Air. [So why, you ask, was she on Hawaiian Air when I wasn't? Well, I do like to do nice things for her once in a while, and besides, she has a sister who lives in Honolulu.]

Sorry, I gave incorrect information when I wrote this. There are no J1772 stations at this location. I plugged in to a 120v outlet.

SJC claims eight J1772 charging stations in Lot 5 (Hourly):

http://www.flysanjose.com/travelers.php?page=parking/charging&subtitle=Parking+|+Electrical+Vehicle+Charging+Station

Did they update one of the Terminal A stations to J1772? Last I checked, the two were inductive and Avcon, as the above page says. They also show an EV charging icon in the new Lot 4, but don't mention it in the text.

For me, I am getting the sticker because while parking my GEM car at the San Francisco Presidio main post I was approached by a police officer who questioned me about parking at the charge station. He asked to see my sticker. Was I glad to have it. I needed to charge so I was glad I did not have to move. At that point I was really glad I paid money...cheaper then a ticket.

Yeah, I would go ahead and get the parking sticker--parking stations with green curbs are starting to pop up and you will need it to identify you as an EV (because being plugged in isn't enough, apparently). I submitted my application for the sticker in the same envelope as the application for the white HOV lane stickers. I received the latter yesterday but not the parking sticker. Wondering what's up with that.

Oops, now that I think about it, I believe I was wrong. When I was there a Volt was parked at the conductive unit and charging. I parked in front of the inductive unit and used my 120v EVSE. But as I try to picture the situation, I realize the Volt was using that "electric cord reel" setup that comes with the car, so was also charging at 120v.

I've looked all around for an adapter from AVCON (inlet) to J1772 (gun), and I cant find one anywhere... It's annoying that there are all these chargers out there that we can't use. I know, everyone says that in a year all the AVCONs will be gone. But that's a year from now...

I took my mom to SJC the other day and took some pictures of the stations in terminal A and in lot 5 (next to terminal B).

Lot 5 is right across from the rental car building, so you could park here and use the rental car bus to get you to/from terminal A (until they upgrade the EVSEs in terminal A.

I did the same, and my stickers came separately. The parking sticker arrived maybe 10-14 days after the HOV stickers.

I've been charging EVs here for seven years and never seen a need for a sticker. Just more junk to stick on the car.

I submitted separate envelopes, and the HOV and parking stickers came back together in one envelope a couple months back. Maybe they ran out of parking stickers too.

Has anyone on this forum sent the ClipperCreek paperwork over to SJC admin office to get them to do the FREE upgrade to J1772 yet?

Maybe not the right place to post this but what are the steps needed to ask for EV parking upgrades at the local Fry's? I remember when the EV1 was introduced, a drawing for the EV1 and electric parking/charging out front. If these can be upgraded - I can pass the information along to Mr Fry.

The two at my Frys in Burbank haven't been operational for years... There aren't any at the newer Frys in Woodland Hills.

Ask to talk to the manager. If he can't be available immediately ask for an appointment, or at least a name that you can send a letter to.

Since the charging is free, I bet an enterprising ICE owner who wants to steal power could set up a charging station with a battery bank in his/her car to "transport" the power home. Hence the parking sticker. A real EV owner would never do that
