Thanks so much for reminding us how Oregon, Arizona, Tennessee and especially Texas are kicking California butt on getting Quick Chargers deployed! :(

Though, I have to admit, I would not use the Texas Quick Chargers since they require the eVgo monthly subscription of $79+ per month with a 3 year commitment!! https://www.evgonetwork.com/Charging_Plans/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not only do we need Quick Chargers, we need sustainable business plans that make sense and relief from utility demand charges. Part of the funding needs to come from the benefit to everyone of avoiding the burning of another gallon of gas in the U.S. To the driver, the costs ideally should be less than the cost of gasoline for the equivalent distance, and in no event more than 2 or 3 times the cost of gasoline for the equivalent distance. Tough nut to crack!!!

Some of these issues - economic sustainabiltiy (capital costs (charger + installation), operational costs (energy ($/kWh, Demand Charges), maintenance, billing systems), revenue (usage / utilization factors, driver payments, subsidies, marketing, oil avoidance / displacement revenue, air basin pollution avoidance revenues, cap and trade, Green Building / LEED status, government incentives to businesses for EV chargers, etc.)) ... all have to work out. That's why it can be so difficult to find hosts for Quick Charge stations, even if the station and installation are free to the business from a government grant.

I wonder how many of those are actually online. Here, our two are still waiting for UL approval so they aren't online yet. It's supposed to be soon though.

The whole Public EVSE infrastructure developement in So Cal is a joke... At least I've got my handy AVCON adapter so I can tap into the multitudes of legacy EVSEs still in service. Just watch out for the spiders on the handles... :ugeek:

Now if the State of Washington would follow through on their plans! I don't know of a single DC QC station here! :x

Sounds like we all have a lot of work to do - to see these planned quick chargers through to public avalailability and to get 30 - 100 in each state from the current 0, 2, 5 .... in each state.

Let's see how long it takes for evgo to evgo away. They seem to be making plenty of profit and adding no real value. Like Ecotality and AV. The entire progression of charging infrastructure is nothing but being slowed down by these companies. It is unfortunate to see this all slowed down and so much tax money being wasted in the process.

Blink actually has a number of DCQC sites arranged, and are beginning installation on those sites soon. Some of the blink reps posted the map and plans for the Puget Sound area to the Seattle Area Leaf Owners group on Facebook.

Maybe they're waiting for final UL approval also.

For those that are interested, the Oregon Department of Transportation is finalizing the locations of the DC Quick Chargers for Aerovironment to install.

Here is a link to the page of potential site options and it includes a link to provide feedback:
http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/OIPP/EV_TigerSiteRankings.shtml

According to AeroVironment.
Washington state DOT also ordered 9 fast-charging stations for I-5 green highway and US2 project.

Ecotality did unveil 8 L 2 in downtown Oly today. i hummed down to partake

but then again, Quick Charge is what will make EVs successful. L 2 is ok and this site is at Olympia Gateway Park is located at beginning of hiking trail so a great place to get a charge of your car and your body!

I don't know what they're waiting for? :?

The Blink DC Quick Charger is already received UL Certification.

At least one Blink DC Quick charger is installed and running.

Hopefully around 200 more to follow.

I would happily pay for a service like evgo if it meant there were at least 25 strategically placed 24/7 QC stations throughout LA/Orange/Ventura Counties. I'd prefer a QC only type of membership for around $40 as I've purchased my own home EVSE and wouldn't care to get them involved in my home charging infrastructure.

They could use a pricing scheme like Zipcar does, where you have a monthly commitment of $50, so if you use less than $50 worth of driving you still pay $50, if you use more then you pay a la carte after your $50 bucket has run dry.

eVgo is rolling out a mobile-only plan (for those with no home charger) for around $39/month. I've heard they won't start charging though until there are sufficient charging stations in place (still only 1 operational in DFW).

There is not a single L3 station anywhere in San Diego yet, either. Supposedly, we will have the first one installed by the end of next month. The EV project update I just attended for this area is looking far bleaker for the near future than the happy crap they were spouting last year, when I signed up. They projected 50-60 L3 stations would be installed by the end of 2012. It's looking now to be maybe 10-12 throughout the whole county. The projected 1500 L2 stations has been whittled down to a couple hundred, probably. Maybe. :x

I think I will sign off now with wsbca's witty .sig file saying:
"I was promised a jet pack!"

Well, that is good news, then. I still have no use for them since my Leaf doesn't even have the QC port. But even if it did, I wouldn't be willing to pay $79 per month. Truth be told, I wouldn't pay $39 per month either. In fact, I'm just not willing to pay any monthly fee for something I'm not ever likely to use. I charge at home 99.9% of the time and don't see that changing any time soon.

Granted, if there were more charging stations around, I'd me inclined to actually use them when they are located near some place I want to go. However, I would not be inclined to use them if the cost was too high (such as higher than the price of gasoline per mile) or if it required a subscription.

Subscription models typically only work when it has a cost benefit to the customer. For example, text messaging is a rip-off. Everyone knows it. But it is less of a rip-off if you buy a text messaging plan. (still a rip off either way, don't get me wrong) but anyone who uses text messaging knows that if you send more than about 20 messages per month, it will save you a lot of money to get a subscription.

So if a quick-charge costs $10 to use, some people would use it in emergency situations only as it would be cheaper than a tow truck. But if it got to where you were using it more than 4 times per month, then a $39 subscription would make sense.

Of course, with just a single QC station in the entire DF/W metroplex, it hardly makes sense.

Our two haven't been UL certified yet. I'm still waiting for them to go online. I guess they are a little different (internally) than the ones that have already been certified. At least that is what the Blink tech guy told me.
