If we are going to complain to Nissan as a group, i'm in. I prefer the non-Nissan app i've been running.

Should we gather and root for reversal and/or development of secure API before they shut down access?
I remember there was some Leaf board or something...
If most of the folks actually want this and agree to sharing their credentials with trusted (but "unofficial Nissan") developers, why would Nissan care? Do they want to please the customers or piss them off?

My LEAF Link access to my car is still working.

I have really come to depend on it for checking status during charge. My understanding is that the Nissan App fails to implement their own Carwings protocol properly.

I also value how I can easily find GPS destinations using LEAF Llnks' Google search, and send them to the car.

did the letter from nissan start off:

Hi again,
I know we promised you a Q&A on the battery theft program, and that is upcoming, we assure you. In the meantime, check out what we are doing to help you monitor your car from your mobile device and to keep it safe from intrusion.

Every day some new Crap to deal with.
I had this all set up just the way I wanted it, and now Nissan, citing security concerns, which I personally think is BS, is going to muck it all up.

I just hope our evil Leaf APP developers can work around this by emulating carwings.
I really like having my charge state right on my I-phone lock-screen.

It's just always something.... Arrrrgh!

It's like they sit around brainstorming ways to piss off and alienate what started out as a fanatically loyal customer base.

Oh, by the way, how much does it cost me to replace the battery in the CAR THAT I OWN???

Unbelievable.....................

This ticks me off.

Nissan shouldn't shut off our apps when they one the produce stinks.

Absolutely. Nissan's app is irritating to no end. This is why I gladly paid for the full version of LEAF Link. I only use the Nissan app when there's a glitch, just to make sure it's not LL's fault, but on the CarWings end. It always is.

If Nissan didn't suck so badly at human interface design in their software it wouldn't be so much of an issue with me.

We should put it in the first post so everyone reading the thread will see the link without reading the whole thread.

Staque, can you edit your first post and add this link?

I understand if they want to stop app developers from gathering a lot of passwords / usernames - they should just implement OAuth or something so that third-party apps can request an API token ala twitter / facebook 3rd party API access.
That is what GM / OnStar ended up doing.

From http://www.voltstats.net/Home/Faq" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Security
Do you store my OnStar credentials in your database?
No, Volt Stats only stores a token in its database that it receives back from the OnStar API OAuth service, which can be used to communicate with your car. The token can only be used for reading data from the car, it does not have permission to perform any actions on the car.

I just upgraded my leaf link 2 days ago
because I have to charge to 100 several times this week and it was easier than resetting the car timers or waking up early to start the charge.
Nissan should have offerer end the missing functions with an upgraded app of their own, before doing this

It's amazing that, with all the issues that Nissan has with the Leaf, they consider this a priority!

Or that after 3 years of their app sitting nearly unmolested by improvements, this is what they came up with.

Their marketing department must be asleep at their desks, because they certainly aren't paying attention. They send out a "Newsletter", clearly crated for marketing purposes and to promote LEAF ownership, and headline it with a slap in the face. I doubt anyone here will even be discussing the rest of the thing, even though the accessory sale could be nice.

I posted the petition in the new, overly optimistic by-invitation-only "Leaf Owners' Panel" group on FB.

We'll see if they revoke my membership :)

GM's response to similar concerns was brilliant by comparison:

When GM is more enlightened than your company, the shame should be physically uncomfortable.
