The 16kWh-ish battery in the Volt costs: $2499 or $2999 for a new battery

Can't be right. I think that may be for one of the three modules needed to make Volt pack, which would mean $9K for 16kWh

I don't know. Looks like the whole battery assembly to me. What do you think?

At the very least, this would be an exchange price. I am skeptical that it includes the whole pack, even with an exchange... but hope to be proven wrong.

I think it would be a breakthrough battery price of $187/kWh years in advance of all predictions, so I'm thinking the image is wrong, or mislabeled, or something.

Follow the google search from above as there are several sites: https://www.google.com/search?&q=20979876+battery" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yes, and a number of them suggest it's for a single module, not the whole pack.

Fascinating. Personally, I don't think that it's just a single module or an empty assembly, but I don't have an explanation for the low pricing. Perhaps we should take this to the Volt thread. (Mods?)

it would appear the price is more since there are multiple part numbers involved here.

i am guessing its 2@ $2994 and one at what ?? $2400 that would bring it to the industry standard of around $500 per kwh...

In this September piece in Forbes magazine
http://www.forbes.com/sites/boblutz/2012/09/10/the-real-story-on-gms-volt-costs/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Bob Lutz cites a battery cost of $350/kWh (~$6,000 for 16kWh).

Just ask anyone that works at the parts dept of any GM dealership, they should know the details.

I agree. When this came up before we found that it was for a single module of the three required. None of the sites Scott linked to showed the detail, and I can't find the site that gave better detail, but there are two modules that make up the "tunnel" and a third module that makes the "T" top. There are three required to make the pack for the volt.

Can the moderator move all the volt battery stuff to a new post?
Sorry guys. I was just providing the searchable part number in response to Tony W's post about the cost. The cost is only related to this thread in that there is a LEAF battery replacement cost announcement to be happening in the spring and people were wondering about possible cost (cost / kWh). Same info is in the Volt thread so everyone can just move on.

Hi guys- just in case any of you aren't yet following it, I've posted a few updates/questions/etc. on the thread regarding this specific meeting: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11057&start=30#p255258" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just stumbled upon this thread after reading about the extended warranty. Seems like most folks are happy but Im curious why they are deciding warranty based on capacity bars which can be manipulated - rather than battery capacity measured by actual charge held in a battery that is charged to 100%

Also- why restore it to 9 bars? If more than 3 bars are lost in the first year, shouldnt they replace or prorate and replace the battery according to usage?

I agree it is better than nothing, but not anything to rave about.

My belief is that Nissan will restore the battery to AT LEAST 9 bars. They could add more at their discretion depending on the individual circumstances. I think all they are saying is that you most likely won't get a brand new battery. I believe if it comes to a battery refresh they will be mildly generous so as to prevent another refresh prior to the extended warranty expiring.

It's probably a mistake to assume they will ONLY restore a battery to 9 bars in EVERY case.
