Based on some members' posts, I see that some of you are very knowledgeable about Li Ion batteries.
While waiting for my LEAF, I am getting up-to-speed on the technology and would like someone to direct me to a good educational resource on Li Ion batteries; manufacture, maintenance, chemistry, charging, etc.?
I am beginning to go thru the links under the Reference Documents section, but these seem to be more LEAF specific. I want to obtain a good knowledge of Li Ion technology in general, the way the Navy trained me on lead-acid technology and maintenance.
I did find this interesting site: http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/batteries_for_transportation_aerospace" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thanks in advance!

Good on you to try to read up on it, I had to do the same when I got started with the LEAF. Love the animated GIF in your avatar BTW. Very clever. Below is a presentation I compiled for a local owner meeting a while ago. Some of it no longer applies or is outdated, but it might be a good starting point. The battery pack has been redesigned in 2013 and it uses lighter packaging now. The Battery University is a good starting point, and it covers a lot of ground. I found it helpful to look at some of the research reports specific to lithium manganese oxide cells (LMO), and referenced a few of them on the forum. Others have done the same, and the general level of knowledge and awareness about the properties of these cells has improved considerably over the past two years. The various instrument and meters knowledgeable owners have built has helped also. And then their is Phil (aka Ingineer), who has worked tirelessly to improve our understanding of the car and posted many measurements and observations on the forum. I would recommend perusing his many posts here on MNL. The SAE magazine, which is available online, is a good read as well.

You may want to look at some of the material in the Wiki:
