Facebook: Opel Ampera
We've been receiving comments recently about the Ampera not selling well. Fact: We have more than 7.000 orders for the car at this point in time, exceeding all our expectations by far. And we're more than proud of that! Thanks for your support!
Aside: Chart is a little hard to read. Please consider making the US Mon-YR (not total) column's font dark blue or something.

I've said this before, but I'd just do US sales at this point...Japan really doesn't mean anything, nor does the Volt really (although I understand the fascination with the comparison).

If you have to do anything else, I would suggest maybe a running total on worldwide production overall and YTD by larger manufacturers of full BEVs if your so inclined....but nothing monthly, lol.

ie)
Nissan/Renault 30K (6.5k-2012)
Mitsu/Cit 22K (3.5k-2012)
Tesla 2,250 (120-2012)

And if you feel energetic add the bigger plug-in hybrid names for giggles:

Chevy/Opel 10.5k (2.5k-2012)
Toyota 2k (2k-2012)

According to this article,

"Rising demand for the LEAF means that its lone production facility in Oppama, Japan can't keep up."

Last month, Chevy sold 1,023 Volts, its highest total in several months. According to GM's Shad Balch, it had already passed that number by March 20. Keep your ears open on Monday, April 2, when sales totals for March are reported.

Good news. cars.com reports about 4500 Volts in stock right now. I think that's quite a bit lower than the last time I checked a month or so ago... Only 650 LEAFs in stock - I think that's slightly down as well...

EVNow, et. al,

Cool summary/table site of USA and Canada sales someone found at gm-volt.com ( http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?12596-Good-web-page-showing-Volt-sales-including-Canada" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

Two more happy Volt customers today [4/1/12]. Both bought black with red spice interior. Wahooooo!
and
R.B. I sold six in March. our team sold 15 I think. I'll post red spice photos tomorrow when I get in. Record month for Volt sales for us. We are reaching out to any dealer for more Volts. Out of our 29 we ordered have two left. GM, get the plant going, please.

Not to be negative but my impression is that a few Chevy dealers have figured out how to sell the Volt but most Chevy dealers have not. You've mentioned the ones that are dong well. But probably a lot of Chevy sold zero Volts last month. The hope is that the ones having success will encourage other Chevy dealers but it looks like a slow process.

No different on the Nissan side. So far there is a decided lack of enthusiasm about the Leaf at the dealer level. In fact the direct sales approach which I initially thought was a good thing may have set back the process. Just looking at sales numbers it appears that demand has leveled off. Sales for the Volt seem much better. If you take out January Volt sales are accelerating over the last six months but Leaf sales flattened after a fast start (talking NA).

I'm surprised nobody has gotten the sales numbers for March yet for either the Volt or the Leaf. I'm anxiously awaiting to hear.

To me, worldwide sales - for all - is actually more telling since it shows the overall demand for the vehicle, and those are the numbers I prefer to see.

Actually I think you are 100% correct about some dealers figuring it out. As well there are some markets where people are more motivated and the sales may be easier. CA obviously but the Volt qualifies for HOV in other states (CARB?) like NY. One salesman above was from NY and the other was from CA.

This owners map (~10%) of 720+ owners shows where they are spread out currently: http://www.voltstats.net/Stats/OwnerMap" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sales numbers will be announced tomorrow but leaks for the Volt indicate over 2000. I have not heard anything for the LEAF.

I care about the USA numbers hoping the politics will die down and *EV sales in general take off. Would rather us be a leader than a follower!

Nissan says it is on track to double sales of the Leaf in 2012 to about 20,000 in the United States.
GM touts uptick in March sales for the Chevy Volt

Also:
General Motors says March sales of its plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt have surpassed February's sales, with more than 2,000 sold — and the company's chief executive is bullish on the future.

But GM said it also plans to suspend production of the Chevrolet Volt for an extra week this summer as it tries to control the electric car's inventory; it could cancel that plan if sales stay strong. GM sold 1,023 Volts in February and 603 in January.

"Last month, we doubled sales from a net low, and this month looks like we could double again," GM chairman and CEO Dan Akerson said in a recent interview in Annapolis, Md.

I have not heard anything for the LEAF.
Still nothing. I think if LEAF sales had broken records like the Volt last month, we would have heard something.

As someone who shopped for both the Volt and the LEAF last month, I can tell you that it would have been MUCH easier to purchase a Volt, in spite of the $10,000 higher price tag. There were three Volts on the lot and they offered us 0% financing for 60 months. Nissan only had the one demo (which we purchased) and offered no factory incentives. The day we purchased our LEAF the dealership was mobbed with people buying cars during the "Nissan Now" sales event.

Among other things, the LEAF is supply-constrained, which is not a problem the Volt has in this country. I read that there were over 6000 Volts on lots but only 425 LEAFs.

I guess we'll see the numbers today.

The Volt numbers are in.. March was 2,289. Not bad, I guess.

that is excellent!! granted the Volt is not the best choice but it is MUCH better than nearly anything else and i am not going to argue what is best for each person's needs.

any news on the Leaf yet?

Volt sales are up 276% !!! How come we don't see that headline anywhere?

Also outsold the Escalade (all versions) and the Corvette. Nobody is suggesting those are a failure though.

If current trends continue GM will be selling more Volts than all other models combined in about 3 1/2 years.

Funny.. it outsold the following GM cars:
  • CHevy Avalanche
  • Chevy Corevette
  • Chevy Aveo
  • Chevy Caprice
  • Chevy Cobalt
  • Chevy HHR
  • GMC Canyon
  • GMC Savana
  • GMC Yukon
  • Caddilac Escalade
  • Caddliac STS
Why are there not headline news each day on Fox, talking about these market failures?

Leaf is not in listed
http://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/...single-month-sales-record-with-march-sales-up
