Japan Mobility Show 2023

https://www.japan-mobility-show.com/en/outline/ has already begun for the press. The show was fka Tokyo Motor Show. I was there for the last Tokyo Motor Show (2019) before COVID. The show's back under the new name.

I will be there next week for two days.

Hopefully, I have some time to drop by https://www.nissan.co.jp/GALLERY/HQ/ACCESS/EN/ in Yokohama again. I think I didn't have time in 2019.

https://www.japan-mobility-show.com/en/gallery/ has the photos the automaker submitted. I just finished my first day and only breezed thru the area w/the major automakers due to the crowds. Will be back my tomorrow. There was for sure a lot more emphasis on EVs this time than 2019. Tesla wasn't there this time, AFAIK.

I haven't watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUu2fb3PISU yet and it's in Japanese. You can try to have YouTube auto-translate.

BYD had quite a presence and a lot of interest. I glanced at the interiors of some of the cars they brought and some are very unusual from the controls POV.

I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_AG1TZBCN0 and for sure haven't watched it but the crowd at the beginning is similar to what it looked like when I arrived right before 11 am even though the show doors opened at 10 am for everyone or 9 am if you paid 500 yen more for an early access ticket. Was crazy.

Not sure when that guy went. If he went on a press day (https://www.japan-mobility-show.com/en/outline/), maybe that's why rest of show for him didn't look so crowded.

I again did see Mercedes BEVs with J1772 and CHAdeMO inlets on them. BMW had some BEVs and was crowded, so I didn't have a chance to look carefully at anything there.

Update: Finished watching this 5.5 minute video published by NHK WORLD-JAPAN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kw1Ef4VgA4. Since she's press, I suspect she went on press day. I wish the crowds were that light most of the day. They weren't.

I did see the JDM Subaru Solterra at the show and it had CHAdeMO inlet on one side and J1772 (no CCS) on the other, kinda like JDM Ariya.

The line was nuts on my 2nd and final day at the show (Thurs, Nov 2nd). The doors open to the general public at 10 am. I arrived at 10:14 am. It took me over 30 minutes to get past the bag check (at the Japan Mobility Show sign you can see at 0:35 after you've climbed the stairs) and have my e-ticket scanned.

Per https://www.japan-mobility-show.com/en/ticket/, up to 5000 people each day can buy an early entry ticket that lets you in at 9 am. To me, that's probably not worth it. Better for folks to stay until the show closes as the crowds really thin out in the last few hours. It was crazy crowded Thursday afternoon to the point where you could barely see look inside cars that were open or see concepts without having to wait around/wade your way thru crowds. By end of the day, it was no problem.

Honda/Cruise Automation brought one of https://global.honda/en/japan-mobility-show/2023/info/Cruise_Origin/ to the show. I was it at Honda's booth. https://automobiles.honda.com/future-cars/prologue was also at their booth but it was roped off and there was no way to open the doors or anything.
