With at least 11 "initial" cities and likely no more than 5000 Leafs for December delivery, it would seem that Seattle (area) would be lucky to get ... 600 or so?

Probably more will get allocated to ares with more EVProject orders, and areas where more EVSEs are installed (more known in October, possibly September).

i dont think we will have any info from dealer this early. as far as "11 cities"... i was under the impression the allotment was 5 areas

Seattle (which has expanded to greater Puget Sound) , OR, San Diego, AZ and Tennessee. with 4700 that would be around 900 each.

if it were divied up by city and San Diego is getting 800, that would imply that some cities might only get a few hundred.

i personally feel that we may simply not have enough info to really determine what is going to happen. i am also hoping that Nissan is recognizing the demand and the time crunch for the tax break and is taking steps to at least get everyone who is willing to take the risk at the beginning when there was much less concrete info available.

I'm thinking for actual deliveries in December, the numbers will be very, very low only because of the winter-time work slowdown at the ports and with longhaul drivers. I could be wrong but, I doubt it.

Do Seattle area Nissans come into the port there, or into some other port (like San Diego or Long Beach) and get trucked (or "train-ed") to the Seattle area?

I'm guessing LA.

http://www.longshoreshippingnews.com/2010/05/electric-vehicles-may-get-discount-at-la-harbor/

Electric vehicles may get discount at LA harbor

The Port of Los Angeles may become the first port to offer reduced tariffs for zero-emission vehicles imported into the United States, under a proposal expected to come before the Board of Harbor Commissioners this summer. Plans call for offering a 15 percent discount on the wharfage rate for battery electric vehicles passing through the port. The reduced rates could go into effect by September, pending final approval by the harbor commission, the California Ports Authority and the Los Angeles City Council.

I'm curious if anyone is interested in getting together (perhaps for coffee) to meet, share info on your charger assessment, latest Leaf news, etc? If so, let me know what part of Seattle you live in or prefer to meet in. I'm in West Seattle.

I sent a mail to PSRC EV Project co-chair the other day about the new I-5 announcement.

Q. Yesterday the governor announced some new funds for chargers along I-5. Is this part of EV Project or something different ?
A. The I-5 Electrification project is separate from the Model Guidance work and from the Ecotality EV Project with Nissan.

Q. Nissan has promised to sell some 900 of its electric cars for the project. By when are they supposed to fulfill this promise ? Have they shared any delivery numbers for this December (or this year) ?
A. For more information regarding the Nissan Leaf, I don’t have exact details and therefore you should visit http://theevproject.com or contact Nissan directly.
So, looks like what they will do is to use this 1.3M (and another 600K or so from another grant) for chargers which are not covered by EV Project, which covers about half of I-5. EV Project will install 5 level 3 chargers on I-5.

Agenda for the July 9 meeting is up now. Apparently I've been added to their "interested parties" list. So, it should be fairly simple to get yourself added as well just by mailing to the contact person listed on the site.

More importantly, Ecotality EV Charging Infrastructure Plan for Western Washington Draft 2.0 is linked as well. They assume a slow adoption of EVs - Just 1,100 by 2011, 12K by 2015, 87K by 2020.

http://www.psrc.org/assets/4123/Western_WA_EV_LR_Plan_V_2_0_Excerpt_June10.pdf

In general for corridor travel, minimum planning should allow DC Fast Charging locations at no more than 30 mile intervals.

WA had the highest "interest" per capita of the launch areas. WA and Hawaii are tops for reservations per capita... so that does not imply slow adoption here.

Yes. I'm going to send my comments about that. It would be good if you can do as well. I'll also contact Seattle EV organization.

as we know, the sale tax exemption for hybrid/EV's expires December 31st.

anyone have an idea of how many from WA state registered for early sale of the Leaf? wondering how much of a risk am i in of not getting my Leaf in time to get that sales tax waived. i bought my 2010 Prius sales tax free that enjoyed it so much i would very much like to do it again!!

now a lot of numbers have been bounced around on how many cars will be available in each of the initial launch areas and when they would be delivered. i am thinking (hoping) around 1000 will be delivered by Dec 31st in each area so i only need to be in the first 1000 or so to get in.

any thoughts on this?

From what I understand, the WA state sales tax exemption for EV's that was going to expire Jan. 1, 2011 has been extended to July 1, 2015.

History of the bill that contains this revision: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=6712&year=2009 It's been voted on and has been signed by the Governor.

The .PDF of the bill: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/billdocs/2009-10/Pdf/Bills/Senate%20Passed%20Legislature/6712-S.PL.pdf

The pertinent section of the WA State legal code, RCW 82.08.809: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=82.08.809. The wording on this web page hasn't been changed yet, but there is a note and link about the pending change:

Cool. I've not read the bill (actually I did, but need refer to old bills to understand the meaning) - but here is the summary.

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/billdocs/2009-10/Pdf/Bill%20Reports/Senate%20Final/6712-S%20SBR%20FBR%2010%20E1.pdf

The sales and use tax exemption for new passenger cars, light duty trucks, and medium duty
passenger vehicles exclusively powered by a clean alternative fuel is extended from January
1, 2011, to July 1, 2015.

OMG ru serious??? AWESOME DUDE!!!

but, and let me make myself perfectly clear.... this in no way implies that i am willing to wait until Jan to get my Leaf... i was actually hoping for a special Nov early release??

State of WA - Dept. of Commerce has put out a Model for Ordinance and Guidance (draft form) for use by local government bodies to adopt a streamlined set of laws for EV Infrastructure build out. Link for the PDF is on this page at the bottom: http://www.commerce.wa.gov/site/1342/default.aspx

Has anyone heard about getting carpool perks for EVs like they do in CA?
The Seattle EV Assn. has members who communicate periodically with WA legislators about EV-related issues. The subject of changing the HOV regulations to allow EVs to use them has been discussed with EV-friendly legislators, and the consensus is that this isn't going to happen any time soon.

I think instead of allowing any vehicle with 2 or more occupants (are some places only more than 2 occupants ?) - they should adopt a CO2 emission / mile / person rule. That way gas guzzlers that only give 15 mpg get a hov license only if carrying 3 people compared to say a civic with 2 people. That would be one way to reduce congestion.
