I'm a saleman at Kearny Mesa Mossy Nissan who is getting a Leaf for my 4th grade teacher wife to drive from Del Mar to Oceanside, CA. She will have > 50 mile comute. It will be interesting see how the Leaf does in the I5 freeway speeds of 65/80 mph.
Currently 20 Leaf clients I maintain contact with are holding their breath waiting for ordering dates and charge systems. 6 cleints have home solar systems.
I'm happy to find this leaf site to refer to my clients. Their are a lot of techno nuts out there. Bless the engineer types that keep us on the straight and narrow even though it may be information overload. bpeachy

If she drives 60-65mph and can charge on 110v while teaching, she should be fine. If she drives 80mph, even with 110v charging she may be pushing it. Plus, is she a lead-foot from the stop lights?? She may need to re-learn how to drive a little.... :?

Must be at the farthest points in Del Mar / Oceanside to make it a 50mi round-trip.

Either way, it shouldn't be a problem in the Leaf, even driving fast. Worst case scenario is bitter cold with the heater on full blast and stuck in traffic which still leaves you with 60 miles range - it never gets that cold here in SD and you'd have to be really unlucky to get stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on I5 both ways, too.

We got our Leaf Friday 3/25/11 and I drove it away from were I work Kearny Mesa Mossy. It had 50 miles with a near full charge. By the time I got home it read 87 miles. I guess the range goes up when the Carwings dials in the driving style.
For a test run, Susan my wife drove it to her school in Oceanside to work in her classroom plus other side trips Saturday. She is stoked. She said that she has to learn all about the buttons. She thought it had plenty of power to get out of someone way when she zoomed up to 87 mph on the I5.
My first Leaf client Tom Franklin zoomed his Leaf to 92 mph with a media cameraman in the front seat and me in the back.
I was surprise we still had 21 miles left on the meter. She took me to work to pick up our 1996 Nissan pickup. When we got to Mossy it was at 14 miles and the low battery light was on.
I wonder how much farther I could go before turtle mode? I read about the lady who ran her Leaf empty with teen miles dropping to 2 miles. What was her driving style to do that?
If any of you want to have a Leaf owner deliver your Leaf from Kearny Mesa just ask for Butch Peachy Leaf Leaf specialist Kearny Mesa Mossy Nissan. We can save some time getting aquainted with the Carwings on my Leaf while detail is preping your Leaf. Of course I need some notice so I can wrench the Leaf out of my wife's hands. Mine Mine Mine

Welcome to the site, Buster! We spoke briefly at the event at the Nissan Design Center celebrating Tom's Leaf (around here, we call him "reeler"). It was near the end of the event, and your wife was calling 'cause you had a dinner engagement you needed to skeedaddle to, but not before we wrapped up our discussion, which I enjoyed a bunch--thanks.

My Leaf is coming in the next few weeks (I hope), but to O'side Nissan--had I chosen Kearny Mesa, I'd look forward to seeing you again. Instead, I'll keep an eye out for you or the Mrs. between Encinitas (where I live) and Del Mar (where I work, just off Del Mar Heights, on High Bluff Drive).

What color Leaf am I looking for? :)
