I hate bumper stickers, etc. But I have often thought about some kind of decal to let people know the car is electric. It irritates me that people often ask me "what kind of gas mileage does that thing get?" I wish there was a way to identify it is an electric car to the masses as it goes down the road so that people would recognize such a thing exists.

I do not like the "zero emissions" badge or the large factory logo that some Leafs have. 99% of people have no idea what "zero emissions" means, and thus is meaningless. Besides that, it also tends to advertise the "green" aspect of the car, which I know does not appeal to the masses.

So I've been wondering about something that I could put on the sides of the car that would explain more about it.

Can the "zero emissions" badge be removed and replaced with this electric badge? I know sometimes those badges are held on via a hole in the body. I think the Prius does something like that behind their hybrid badges. If I knew I could safely pull off the "zero emissions" and replace it with "electric" and not worry about any holes in the body, I might just do it.

There was a thread last year that showed how people had removed all the badges from the back of the LEAF. There was a hole for the front hamburger badge that people had to fill and paint. Not sure if this has changed for the 2013 models.

The only badge that uses mechanical fastening is the front "NISSAN" badge. All the others are affixed with a stiff putty-like adhesive. Various ways to get them off. I "sawed" through the adhesive with dental floss and fishing line and cleaned up the remaining adhesive with Goo Gone and WD40. I blacked the "L E A F" lettering and put it back on in a different orientation. The rest are in the cabinet in case the dealer gets persnickety during the lease return.

This is my version.
Repositioned the passenger side emblem under the drivers side, and added "Electric" on the right.
Wanted people to "get it" without the questions, but not "in your face".

My license plate frame is an homage to the Monty Python taunts from holy grail.
