I noticed something unusual today after a full charge using the EVSE upgrade. Normally after a full charge the 3 lights on the dash stay on for about 15 minutes and then go dark. Today the 3 lights stayed on for over an hour and didn't go dark.. I unplugged and noticed a drop on my GID meter from 257 (normal) to 251 gids. Another thing I noticed: After a full recharge, when I unplug and plug in again it tops off for another 15 minutes or so. This time when I plugged in again the 3 lights came on solid without blinking.
The outside temperature is 92 degrees today in Sacramento and the garage temperature is 84. I've had the 2012 SL for about a year with 9000 miles on the odometer.
Do I have a problem festering?

Sounds to me like you have an automatic solution. I would guess the car was balancing the charge on the various cells. It does that by bleeding off a bit from the ones with the highest voltage.
