This type of chemistry is very efficient when operated within an 80% SoC (from 10% to 90%), very little heat is generated.. but outside those limits using the battery produces more and more heat.. and heat is bad.

Heat is only generated when charging at high SOC - at low SOC you are putting a different type of stress on the battery which can alter the internal chemistry leading to reduced capacity - but you won't get excess heat compared to high SOC.
