Having owned EVs for years I thought I had heard them all. But here's a new one. My cousin (who lives in a different city and probably didn't even know I drive a Leaf) posted on his Facebook a picture of a Chevy Volt plugged in at his work. He then claimed how this person was very irresponsible for leaving his car plugged in for 12 hours.
I was scratching my head on this one. After further conversation I realized his misconception. He thought that as long as the car was plugged in, it would be drawing power, even if the battery was full. I explained that it would shut off after the battery was full. But he said that didn't matter because he had always heard that anything plugged in would use power. He cited examples such as a toaster. :?
So anyway. I think I have him straightened out on that issue.. but then the conversation quickly went downhill into the usual "produces more pollution due to coal" and EV drivers "getting free fuel" and all of the other misconceptions. I think he got tired of the argument after a while.
