I have a 2012 SV, with the resistance heater that is such a range killer.
A friend is considering leasing a 2016 S, turning in her 2014 SV.
Does anyone know if she would be moving back in time to the resistance heater, if she were to get the 2016 S?
Her range needs make the resistance heater a non-starter.
Thanks for any definitive knowledge on this point.
Dave

The 2013+ Leaf S uses a "dry" resistance heater that eliminates the coolant loop of the earlier version. It heats more quickly, but does not use much less power. Resistance heaters will always use far more energy to get the same amount of heat as a heat pump system. (The heatpump-equipped Leafs also rely on resistance heat below roughly 20F.)

The 2016 LEAF S retains the resistive heater of all S. As has been the case since it debuted in 2013, the heat pump is only available with the SV/SL: http://www.nissanusa.com/electric-cars/leaf/versions-specs/
