Sorry for the late response on the 1001 LEAF, but the EVSE included with that car is one of the recalled Chevy Volt 120V EVSEs. Those EVSEs should not be used, as they were recalled as a shock/fire hazard. The new replacement Chevy Volt EVSEs have a black cord. No doubt somebody took the LEAF...
Hi EvansvilleLeaf,
Have you considered a Chevy Volt? Here's my situation...
Last January, I traded in my '11 Nissan LEAF. I lost 1 capacity bar at 35K (at 2 years), and at 44K (6 months later), I was close to losing my second capacity bar. I live in a "mild" SF Bay Area climate, so I never...
@greenleaf--yes, I had the dealer replace the front spoiler on the 2nd week...I mentioned that the salesperson promised me that I can get the shortened spoiler, since the original will scrape on every driveway. But if your dealer won't accommodate, the part is about ~$50, and you can actually...
Wow, my situation is nearly the same as greenleaf's.
I initially leased my '11 LEAF at Boardwalk, and then bought it out 3 months later. Traded the LEAF in for a '14 Volt, but kept the upgraded EVSE (it works on the '14 Volt). The ever shrinking range was starting to make the daily commute...
Yep, sorry, I clicked "submit" too early without proofreading--meant to say 44K miles.
Even though I traded in our LEAF on 1/20/14, I never felt "closure" on the sale until the car finally disappeared off the lot over the past weekend. Either the car finally sold, or the dealer gave up and...
If you are considering the Volt, your upgraded EVSE (the large Nissan "brick") will work on it as a Level 2. I had traded in my '11 LEAF at 44K miles (1 bar lost) for a '14 Volt. I kept the EVSE.
After 1.5 months and 3.5K miles, I'm on my second tank of gas. On average, I'm getting 44 miles...
@ evnow--I agree.
At least in the SF Bay Area, I am seeing other plug-ins that are competing against the Volt. The Volt is smaller than the LEAF and seats only 4, but I ended up buying the Volt, because I wanted the plug-in that has the closest experience to a BEV, with the largest battery...
I agree about the mixed feelings part. My wife and kids still miss our LEAF. It was reliable and very usable for the past 2.5 years. Amazing low maintenance costs. Terrific, supportive LEAF community. Yes, the car had minor annoyances (pressing OK at every startup, fast wearing "carpet"...
+10 with Stoaty.
The biggest one for me was the battery longevity (or lack thereof). After 29 months and 44K miles, I could only go 54 miles before I hit VLBW (~25 GIDs) in warm weather. In most cases it's 52 miles to VLBW.
The scary part is that my '14 Volt can go 44 miles before the ICE...
@cwerdna,
Yes, I agree. That's the reason why I decided to trade-in now, versus waiting until late Spring to Summer. There are several other reasons:
--I do not want to buy another EV/PHEV during the hot temp months (I bought my LEAF in August, and 2011 was a hot summer). I don't want the...
Agreed with Stoaty and dgpcolorado on this.
Despite trying to keep my battery pack cool during the summers, I lost my 1st capacity bar at 35K. Car is at Sunnyvale on the weekdays, parked in the shade, and in Fremont on the weekends. It's parked overnight during the past summers, charged at...
+1 for tomkludy.
The Fast Degradation is by far the biggest thing that I hate most about my former LEAF. Which is the reason why I traded it in.
If it weren't for the degradation, I would have kept our LEAF.
But in a temperate climate like San Jose, CA, with 44K miles, I've lost 22% in 29...
@daniel3ooo--great price, but I'd be very careful. Where in the Bay Area are you? The micro-climates in the Bay Area make a huge difference on the battery degradation of the battery pack.
I live in South San Jose. I just traded in my '11 LEAF for a '14 Volt. My car had 44K miles on it. No...
Well I know about the red Leaf at Capital Chevrolet, because that car used to be mine!
1 bar lost, 44.3K miles. GIDs varied between 210-215 as of 2 weeks ago. aH was at 52.9. 4.4 miles/Kwh. Mixed freeway and highway average was 54 miles to VLBW. Straight highway at 55 to 58 mph from San...
