LEAF OEM Motion/Glass sensor install

Thu May 03, 2012 9:49 am

FYI, Nissan does sell an add-on to the alarm system for the Leaf that adds sound and motion sensing for just such a contingency. It sells for well under a hundred bucks and I've seen them on Ebay a number of times.

Cinmar - Thanks for the updates, as we're learning so much from your experience. And again, so sorry it happened.
Whoa ... $12,000??!!! Has your insurance company been good to work with?

TomT - Do you have the details/link on that add-on alarm system? Will it work with the LEAF's no-key entry? Or will it need a separate control for it? Seems like a worthwhile investment to add on.

Here you go: http://www.nissanpartszone.com/oem/2011 ... -2383.html

It is controlled by the factory alarm system already in the car.

Looks like that particular part has been super-ceded by part # 999M2-VW007 (same price on that site).

Anyone know how difficult it is to install? Typically factory alarm add-ons like this are plug-and-play...

It installs under the driver's side dash in the general area of the steering column. It taps in to some of the existing wires (using supplied connectors) so is not exactly plug and play but close... It took me about an hour to install mine when I did it about 9 months ago. There is a calibrated sensitivity adjustment on it and you initially set it to the value indicated for a Leaf. That worked fine for me and I did not have to change it from there during subsequent testing.

The new sensor:

Is there a detailed description of its functions,
and some install instructions that we can read?

Thanks, Gary

I found this: http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/asistgc_ ... /1SK14.PDF
It's the manual for the Rogue, but it's the same part, and the one for the LEAF must be on there somewhere. Viewing the manual requires an account at nissan-techinfo, but there's no charge to download it.

I ordered one. Came to $64.57 after shipping and handling. Didn't get an email confirmation, will see what happens.

Does anything need to be enabled in the LEAF for this to work? I know with my Prius you had to get a dealer to connect his scanner and turn it on. :(
