And I'd forgotten the (1/11) Fox review that is linked, is actually, fairly accurate, and includes a comment, that the LEAF IMO, deserves, but rarely receives.

Quote:
...it’s the handling that’s the real surprise. This thing is actually a bit of a kick on twisty roads. The position of the 660-pound battery pack low and to the rear of the car gives the Leaf a BMW-like near 50/50 weight distribution that helps it devour sharp turns and traffic circles, even if the fuel-efficient low-rolling resistance tires limit its ultimate abilities. It’s just a matter of time before some intrepid early adopter replaces the Bridgestone Ecopia rubber with a set of sticky Potenzas and wins a couple of autocross trophies...

You have to wonder, why the FOX memo never went out, to highlight the links between the LEAF, and the Kenyan-Socialist-anti-American-EV conspiracy?

From the video, "[$30,000] -- That's a lot to pay for not burning gasoline". No mention of what he will save in gas costs and maintenance over the next ten years. Sigh.

someone pinch me, am I dreaming? Fox news finally is putting forth something kind of accurate about EV's?
"He charges his car nightly in his garage, a process that takes about 8 hours. That extra juice has raised his electric bill about $60.00 a month, but he pays monthly what many drivers pay weekly for gas."

Don't worry, in the second half of the article they rehashed "range anxiety" despite the interviewee apparently not saying a word about it.

on the higher sticker price of ev, he said: "That's a lot to pay for not buying gasoline."

When you hear things like that, you know it's time to avoid the news station.

"a lot to not buy gas"

what he did not do was a cost analysis. at current gas prices, he is saving what?

he drives about 1000 miles a month well, $60 is 6 cents a mile so guessing his rates are high (not surprising considering where he lives) or he is not really monitoring it.

or he could be driving a 30 mpg car getting 14-15 cents per mile ($4.20 gas) as long as that price holds up. so it would be along the lines of $140 -150 for gas which about what we are paying on the Prius at 50 mpg...something does not add up here.

but we will say gas wont go up...and he is saving $100 a month plus whatever maintenance. on a gas car that means 2-3 oil changes by now. if he did it himself. $20-30 a pop. if he paid someone, closer to $50 and it only goes UP from there.

so, in less than 5 years, the cost of higher gas and maintenance will have him into the cost of a Jetta, entry level Prius, or just a few thousand more than a Chevy Cruise.

remember that is IF gas does not go up...

I'm quite surprised by the carping about this. The written article I linked to was as positive as any mainstream article I've seen about EV's and far more positive than 99% of them. Other than one stupid comment by the anchor guy, the video wasn't even remotely bad and the gal was positive. And, I think everything they said was completely true. Well, except for her comment that it's range is 100 miles which we know is closer to 60 or 70.

If they were really out to get EV's they'd not have posted this article & video. Writing about a happy customer, how dare they.
