Something tells me next week is going to be a very good week for us. Nissan will undoubtedly be releasing a bunch of information to the public in conjunction with this event.

Let's hope! One thing that was definitely supposed to be released next week is the new pedestrian warning "sound"

Yep... And I keep thinking about the SNL sketch with the personalized car horns... http://www.hulu.com/watch/131075/saturday-night-live-new-car-horns

"YOKOSUKA--Nissan Motor Co on Friday kicked off a week-long test-drive event for its Leaf electric car, saying it had a combined 20,000 orders in Japan and the United States six months before the car goes on sale.

Japan's No.3 automaker is inviting 500 journalists, shareholders, government officials, and some customers who have placed reservations to drive the five-seater hatchback at its test track near Tokyo in an exclusive preview through June 19.

Nissan is counting on the zero-emission Leaf to regain its reputation as a technology leader after trailing Toyota Motor and Honda Motor in fuel-efficient hybrid cars.

Nissan and its French partner Renault SA are the most aggressive proponents of battery-run electric cars, aiming to become the first in the world to sell them in large numbers with a global roll-out of eight models in 2012."

Saw this in a response in green.autoblog.com

A few things from this drive that I have not seen elsewhere (admittedly, I might have missed them, so forgive me if they are already known)
  • 0-60 in 11.5 (0-60 speed has been speculated before, no idea if this is more official than other posts)
  • Some details about the generated noise, such as that it cuts out at 15MPH (although that has been mentioned elsewhere today)
  • 3,300pound weight (weight has also been mentioned elsewhere, so I don't know if this is more official than others)
  • Eco mode is selectable. I originally thought that Eco mode was the mode the car forced you into when you are near the end of the battery (and maybe it still does this), but it is also a selectable mode that "blunts acceleration, dials down the aircon and boosts the braking battery regeneration."
  • The internal ignition tones are "selectable" (I originally thought there was just one tone you had for this)

I hear your frustrations loud and clear, although my intentions are sincere it’s best I refrain from further posts. Again, I apologize posting material that has already been discussed.

No worries mate, I don't mind the occasional double post. I'm even guilty of it myself. Your post was news to me, being an official statement from Nissan. :)

What are the "internal ignition tones", please?
I was referring to the sound that you as the driver hear when you turn on the Leaf. I was trying to differentiate from the sounds the Leaf will be making for pedestrians to hear. Both sounds will happen when you turn on the car (if I am reading things right), but the one that the driver/passengers hear is apparently selectable.
