Our family's LEAF has 3,500 miles since January, and our Volt has almost 10,000 miles since December (including nine 500-mile round-trips from the SF Bay Area to Lake Tahoe). I haven't posted a roundup to CalCars-News Archive in a while, but CalCars is still working away.
While we declared victory on our initial goals (commercialization of plug-in hybrids), we're continuing to work on:
* promoting accelerated adoption of all plug-in vehicles; contributing on policy issues and driver-generated ideas to improve the vehicles coming to market;
* getting more vehicle types to market (we're excited by the announcement of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which could be the first four-wheel/all-wheel drive plug-in SUV);
* spreading the idea of vehicle electrification (CalCars Technology Lead Ron Gremban is devoting lots of times to plug-in airplanes, which are developing faster than most people realize)
* the idea of high-volume conversions of existing vehicles to EV/PHEV, which is the only way we'll electrify transportation quickly enough to have an impact on fossil fuels quickly enough to make a difference on energy security and climate change.
We encourage everyone to keep plugging away; join the Sierra Club's EV campaign, the Electric Auto Association, Plug In America, Project Get Ready, and all the other national and local efforts (links to many at http://www.calcars.org/partners.thml
