Maybe it's pining for it's homeland? Like that parrot in the Monty Python sketch.

Ah yes... the Ocean Blue? Lovely Plumage!

There is a good chance that if you can find a nav unit from a wrecked EU car, it will have the maps resident in it. Try swapping the nav unit in your car from a crashed local car.

And that parrot isn't dead, he's stunned.

Actually, it's just sleeping.

In all seriousness, I would hope that the OP, and anybody else who imports a gray-market (unofficial import) car, would have anticipated a lack of cooperation from a local dealer when it comes to their car. Back when gray-market German cars were popular in the US, many local official dealers outright refused to work on them. And I have heard stories about US military members sometimes having trouble getting their US-spec cars serviced by the same make's German dealers, even if the same car is sold locally as well.

You'd think that "home" would just be set in some hidden maintenance menu and that changing it to Europe would be sufficient to have the car update it's maps.

Surprised no one has come across something along these lines when hacking around their unit.

Doesn't the US unit let you back up its maps onto an SD card? If so, maybe a Euro wreck could be used to provide maps for the US car.
No, not back up of the maps.
It allows update of the maps with a replacement SD card.
Separate thread indicates a lot of US purchasers of updated maps had trouble getting functioning updated maps SD card.

But it is possible that the only difference on non US cars is an SD card with the correct maps for that country. If you can borrow a European card or get someone to send you a copy of the SD card you may be able to burn a card that has the right maps.

But there could be copy protection issues. Not sure about that.

Situation is not good,

For Imported Leaf's from US, EU Nissan dealers have only one answer is (SORRY we cant help)
I asked, maybe I can purchase European Leaf NAV head with EU maps, and put it in to my car. Answer was negative and some "smart" dealers offered for me buy NAV head for 5000 Euro and without warranty if this NAV will work in my car.
So, only one way ,I have to find good hacker who can hack my NAV and fix this problem

I have the exact same problem. I have tried replacing the card and this does not work. :(

I believe that Nissan sources the GPS System in North America from Clarion, and in Europe they use Bosch.

Then perhaps it may be changing out the Clarion supplied components for the Bosch supplied ones would work? Surely there must be wrecked LEAFs starting to find there way into scrapyards over there? Though it would be an added expense.

Why not use an EU GPS and save yourself the trouble?

Maybe replacing one of the cards where the CD is might work?........snip......
Hey! I remember CD's ... Someone still makes CD's ??
Yea, you might need to cash in a couple CD's in order to make things perfect
:)
.

I found on the internet this unit AVIC-EVZ05 http://ev.nissan.co.jp/LEAF/EVIT/carwings.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This NAV can be replaced original NAV head just no information about Charging timers, and energy monitoring options like was on original NAV

Maybe possible use this Item and get GPS maps upgrade better like nissan do now.

CDs are nice, but I've had to make some modifications to connect my 8-track player.
