Using OBDLink SX to Log the LEAF's CAN buses

Yes, makes sense, and does not risk destroying the OBDLink SX.

However, the connectors are well molded, and might be difficult
to dig into for modification.

I am considering mounting 3 panel-mount OBD2 female sockets
on a small box and wiring each one for one CAN bus.

I successfully logged the LEAF's CAR-CAN bus using the
ScanTool OBDLink SX device today, using my v196 of
CAN-Do.

I used 500,000 baud after a series of "AT" commands
to setup the OBDLink to output all the CAN Messages
in a MMMD1D2D3D4D5D6D7D8<LF> format, receiving
over 1000 messages per second.

I verified that the Accelerator Pedal Position value
was found in the expected message.

It seemed to work quite well, but the LEAF was only in
AUX-2 mode, not READY, and not actually driving.

Gary - did you incorporate these modifications into CAN-Do itself (the modified AT initialization strings, etc.)? If not, what program did you use with the OBDLink SX to do the actual datalogging?

I ask because I picked up a PLX KIWI, which (I think) is ELM327-based, and I'm trying to figure out if I should be able to use it with CAN-Do, or EasyObdII or some other Windows-based software. I'm actually trying to use it with the Torque Android app, but am having no luck thus far - it might be due to the LEAF's lack of OBD-II compliance and it not responding to an initialization string that Torque runs at startup.

Do you mind sharing the AT string you used to configure the OBDLink SX?

CAN-Do has the AT initialization strings, mostly sent manually,
but enough to get you logging. Start with this

However, I probably have a later version, but try this for starters.

A later version is

You are welcome to try it, but
right now I do not remember the differences.
