Oops, you are right, Andy, as usual. When I said the first bar covered less charge I was going from memory, and it tricked me. The table from the service manual that has been published here says specifically that the first bar drops off when you are down 8% from maximum available charge (and the 2nd one at 16%, etc.). But what I said on the other end pretty well matches the table -- you drop to one bar when there is 12% of available capacity left. That would be roughly 2.9 kWh if available capacity is 24 kWh, and I'm still wondering if that isn't what is leading DaveinOlyWA to say he only has 24 - 3 = 21 kWh.
