I got a chance to test the Pirelli carving Edge snows a bit on some light but quite slippery snow coating, ice and snow pack last night. They are a little worse on ice than soft-compound tires, but seem predictable. The same seemed to be true with the little packed snow I encountered; they slide a bit but don't get out of control. I would have loved better snows, but for $230 total (three are used, one new) these will do. Plus, they aren't Ecopias!

I just got another chance to see how the Pirellis work - in some un-forecast but very slippery light snow. I'm not impressed with them, especially with how willing they are to lose grip on wet snow-covered pavement. The only good news is that they are predictable, and will get the car back into line with the appropriate throttle response. Wish I could have afforded UltraGrips at least...
