Sounds like owner error was involved in bricking a Tesla. Who could be that oblivious in maintaining a $115k car? The last two paragraphs of the article are the most germane to this forum:
Nissan said in a statement that the Leaf’s battery pack “will never discharge completely, thanks to an advanced battery-management system designed to protect the battery from damage.”

And, said a Nissan spokeswoman, Katherine Zachary, “Never means never.”

To NEVER discharge completely the battery will need a source of power to compensate for self discharge, so ... never say never.
But practically, I guess, it will take to a good battery a (very) long time to completely discharge after the turtle mode. Still how long it will take for "never" to happen?
