GM's customer service (or lack thereof) is well-known. Right now, the Bolt EV has a halo around it, just like the LEAF did when it was shown in 2009. Don't let that halo blind you of GM's continued failures in customer service and customer safety.
The Bolt EV will not have the over-the-air updates Tesla has because of the whole dealership thing. Apparently this violates the direct servicing agreement that dealerships have. Finally, GM is getting burned by the same laws that they leveraged to keep Tesla from selling cars in Michigan and other states.
For me, I don't expect to replace my LEAF for quite some time. I had my last car, a 2004 Mazda 3, for 9 years and 87,000 miles. I'll probably do the same with the LEAF. Even with significant battery degradation, the LEAF will continue to suit my needs.
In 8 years (I've had my LEAF for 1 year), it will be the year 2024. A 60kWh battery will seem laughably small. ICE vehicles are relegated to car shows and illegal immigrants. The first EV with an advertised 1000 miles range will arrive. That's when I will make my decision for my next EV.
