The San Diego Union Tribune had an interesting article in their Apr 22 Business section, showing a table of various cars and how their fuel efficiency translated into cost efficiency. They listed 23 vehicles ranking them by monthly payment (based on a 5-yr, 6% loan) plus the monthly fuel cost (based on avg cost of gas/diesel in March, or electricity at .11 kwh).
The Leaf ranked 3rd, behind the Toyota Yaris and Hyundai Elantra. Chevy Volt came in 16th.
Results would have been a bit different had they used current gas prices, and there was no consideration/discussion of owners who had solar PV installed.
