I'm continuing to talk to dealerships in up to a 100 mile radius from me. At one NY state dealership (who will remain unnamed), I was surprised to learn they won't be selling the Leaf because it's "Not worth the hassle and the expense that it will cost the dealership, charging stations cost too much to install, and this car is not a rural car , we are located in the North country and there is no other charging stations around,, I would go online and contact NYC dealers,, Big city dealerships will have the car."

Thankfully, not all the dealers in my area are taking this approach. The closest one to me, however, is not yet Leaf certified.

Who knew moving from Albany, NY to Chicago years ago would put me closer to the front of the line for a new LEAF ???
I move from Albany to San Diego many years ago. I got my LEAF in April and I love it. Last month's electric bill was $30 (vs $200 in gas) Good luck to "youse guys."

I got the e-mail today that I could order. Called back the local dealers that I went to visit last week, still can't get a firm quote. One did say they were "99% sure" that it would be MSRP with no dealer add-ons. I may have to just do the RAQ, get the quote, reject if over MSRP and start over. What I was trying to avoid. Or maybe I will just wait a couple months until they figure it out. I think MSRP represents a pretty good profit for the dealer, and I'm not inclined to pay more. If I was going in to buy a new Altima, I'd be looking for $200 over invoice.

Expect about $100 or more over MSRP, for inspection, tires (NYS required for disposal) and doc fees.

Right, I when I say MSRP, I mean MSRP + destination fee, tax, and title.
The dealer I would prefer to deal with, because I bought an Altima there before, and because the Leaf specialists were the most knowledgeable, called me back and said yes it would be MSRP, but they are currently not accepting orders at this time because they are have "issues to be resolved" with Nissan. It seems that opening of the order process has caught the local dealers by surprise. Of the other two dealers I contacted, one was totally confused about the entire process (thought he did say it was contrary to his dealership policy generally to charge over MSRP), and the other has failed to even return my phone calls.
It will be much more convenient for me to accept deliver in April or May, rather than in the winter. So I might just wait until December to order, that should put me in a spring time frame for delivery.

I've found similar results around here. I am educating most of the dealerships on how the process works. Some seem completely clueless. Others have told me flat out that they won't see a Leaf at their dealership until late Spring (which I interpret as June) at the absolute earliest. Since I just ordered mine, that dealership should be seeing one by January, at least if I can believe the "90 to 120" days.

I think the "doc fee" is bogus, but can't do much about it. At least my preferred dealer has been helpful and knowledgeable about the Leaf and the process. The dealer closest to me is one of the clueless dealerships. I couldn't even order from them because they haven't bothered to get Leaf certified.

Guess it's time to build my signature, too. It will be something like:

Silver SL model Leaf
Reserved: 4/20/2010
Ordered: 9/28/2011
Delivered: ??????????

Congratulations Relytgerg, on locating a dealer you can work with. Make sure to post when you get a delivery time frame, it will help me estimate when I should order to get a April/May delivery. I've waited 18 months, a couple more won't hurt.

It looks like Leafs were unloaded yesterday and more will be unloaded in Newark later this week. See the thread at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2091&start=510#p142562" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Let us know if you recently got or get your VIN soon. This will be an indication that your Leaf is on U.S. soil.

Hello fellow NYers...

I'm from Long Island, but graduated from SUNY Albany, so I know that area well, too. I ordered mine through a dealer on Long Island...I contacted nearly ever dealer on Long Island and in Queens and only one of them actually knew what I was talking about, and understood how to respond to my RAQ. Unfortunately, he responded with a quote of $37,250 per month for a lease, but I accepted it anyway. I'm pretty confident that it'll just be sticker + fees when I get to the dealer. He also told me the lease payments would be $478 a month for the SL. The website now gives me a delivery date of Jan 2012.

New Yorkers, let's get our orders on the map:

The Hoegh Trident is headed into Newark (New York) harbor. Check your accounts for changes soon New Yorkers!

After sitting outside the harbor for days, she's finally docked at the Newark (FAPS) docks. Now, maybe some Leafs are being unloaded.

My dealer called me this morning that they've received their Demo car. I'm assuming that all the local dealers have gotten them from this ship, but I don't think any customer deliveries in NY will take place until January. That's what my account says, at least!

I requested a quote in September and never heard back from the dealer - Nissan of Middletown. I was distracted and still working out the charger issues, so I wasn't very aggressive. Finally, I got a hold of a Nissan rep from my Leaf account page and he told me to resubmit the RAQ. I did last week and still didn't hear back from the dealer. The rep who helped me also called the dealer and is going to assist, but maybe it's time to try another dealer? I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow.
And I bought my Sentra from this place in '03 and had a good amount of service done by them. Sheesh.

Sounds typical to me! The dealers in NY are clueless. Totally, totally clueless. I've already had to cancel my order once and reorder with a new dealer. I'm back to a "pending" delivery date. Your best bet is to call all the Leaf certified dealerships, ask to speak to the person certified in the Nissan Leaf (make sure they know you're not saying "Lease"), and then actually meet with him/her at the dealership. My current dealer answered my RAQ right in front of me, and I accepted it using his laptop. (Sticker price, of course!)

OK. Check http://www.green.autoblog.com/2011/12/01/volt-sales-climb-to-1-139-leaf-drops-to-672-in-november/?a_dgi=aolshare_twitter" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for November sales. Note the quote, "The company has also set a goal of 10,000 Leaf sales in 2011, and will need to get December sales back to summer levels to meet that target."

I hope Nissan is really pushing to do that and that as a result, many New York State cars will make it to their owners before month end, including mine.

However, Nissan's lack of communication and tracking capability leaves me doubtful.

Good luck New Yorkers!

I'm not holding my breath. My birthday is at the end of February, so, I'm hoping mine shows up around then. Canceling and reordering is most definitely going to cause me a big delay in receiving my car. I'd be very, very surprised if it was before Feb. I'd be even more surprised if anyone in New York got a Leaf before the end of the year.
