I was just seeking to correct what I felt was some incorrect information about diesels.
If we are talking about the OP and cost over 3 years, I just think we should understand what he drives now, or how much the bus ticket is. I somehow suspect the extra cost of the car will swamp the extra fuel/electric/ticket costs.
We persuade ourselves in all sorts of ways that the purchases we make, and that we want to make, are cost effective. But usually we persuade ourselves in that way because we want to make that purchase, rather than there is a good cost argument.
When a person puts forward an argument for something, the easiest person to fool with it is themselves. The success of many branded products relies on that fact.
