My delivery date has changed to Dec 13 from Dec 5. No Vin or carwings yet.

I am a bit jealous of the people who get calls from their dealer about their car status. I went with Martin Nissan based on reviews I found on-line but it usually takes me days to get hold of their ev-specialist. She never returns calls. She made me drive down two weeks ago to evaluate my trade in (45 minute drive) and then their trade in specialist refused to come outside to look at the car because it was still a month till delivery. Really bad service. Avoid Martin Nissan.

Also getting a bit of range anxiety. I am starting to realize that there are no chargers anywhere outside the city so I will not be able to make my regular trips to Wisconsin anymore.

(also sorry to see YashuV go; I'm sure someone will be happy with an 'orphan', will update the list once we get a few more postings) -- for 'dutch'; don't feel alone, since my 'EV' guy left my dealer (he left for a dealer closer to his home, long commute), I need to call them versus the other way around. The dealer hasn't even given him the same 'LEAF' access the GM has nor has he really received much training so I'm kind of starting all over again. I did get a better reception to my trade-in and had brought up the whole "it's still a month out" but they agreed to appraise my trade (I had two other appraisals done; one at a car broker and one at Carmax; suggest you do the same, doesn't cost anything other than your time but worth it for piece of mind; PM me for more details). The only thing I did agree to was to keep the car under a certain mileage prior to delivery which won't be a problem for us. Holding off on posting details of what the LEAF will replace until it actually happens. My delivery date remains at 'week of December 13' still but have had VIN and CARWINGS for awhile -- at this point unfortunately it would be very tough to change dealers (had tried once my rep left and I was getting a fuzzy feeling about the transition) but they may consider it if you press a bit harder or maybe possibly if you 'refuse' do to poor customer service ?? They did say that they can't control what the dealer will sell you the car for but would think that getting a poor value for your trade-in may be, but having said that if you don't have a VIN perhaps it's not too late ?

I have a reservation in Wisconsin, and a brother in Illinois. I have just started thinking that I may "use" him to buy my Leaf in order to get the IL tax credit. (I.e. he buys, takes the tax credits - fed and IL - and sell the car to me at a net price).

I apologize for what may be a series of ridiculous (to you) questions, but here goes:

- Does anyone know if it is possible to "transfer" my reservation to my brother so he can order a Leaf now (and take advantage of the IL tax credit (Wisconsin has none)? Or is this not necessary - can he just go order one without a wait?

- Would he have to actually register/license the car to get the fed and state tax credits? (He will sell it to me immediately and I would love to avoid the sales tax).

- Is there any sunset for the IL tax credit? Any reason to get this done in 2011 vs. 2012?

- Any complication that I am not thinking of?

Thanks :D

Hmm -- let's see:

- Does anyone know if it is possible to "transfer" my reservation to my brother so he can order a Leaf now (and take advantage of the IL tax credit (Wisconsin has none)? Or is this not necessary - can he just go order one without a wait?

People have successfully 'moved' their reservation to another address (when they have two and the other has a better overall deal) but unless you already have an expected delivery date in late '11 or early '12 don't see any advantage other than to have your brother buy the car and then transfer it to you

- Would he have to actually register/license the car to get the fed and state tax credits? (He will sell it to me immediately and I would love to avoid the sales tax).

This is the problem -- the Fed Credit is on the 'original' purchaser's tax return so he would need to register it an incur all the license fees, etc.; the state credit is a full refund and stipulates that the car was purchased and registered through an IL dealer so those that bought out of state will not get it

- Is there any sunset for the IL tax credit? Any reason to get this done in 2011 vs. 2012?

So far the money is there until the IL EPA says it isn't -- web site for more details:

Unless WI will 'waive' your car's sales tax because it was paid in IL, you'll end up paying sales tax for BOTH states (some states will waive sales tax if the person registering the car can show another's states sales tax was paid --- NH does this but only because it covers the first year, they get an excise type tax based on the declining value of the car every year unlike other states that get just the initial sales tax); you'll need to see how your DOT/DMV, etc. laws deal with out of state vehicles.

I wouldn't think it would be not worth the headache as the IL EPA rebate's $3,750 (10% of say $37,500 MSRP) would be offset by your states sales tax but others may offer other opinions ...

*** Hopefully the 'affirmation' is no longer needed but she sent it with the form back to me when I requested the plate form a few months back ... does she have a disclaimer or something that covers this change?

Looks like this is now confirmed as the IL EPA site has changed as would assume IL SOS will follow the same rules ...

Thanks for the quick response...

His sales tax rate is 6.25%, mine is 5.5%, and the tax credit is 10%.

Here's the math (round numbers):

37,500
x 6.5% Illinois vehicle sales tax rate
2,344 sales tax due to Illinois

(3,750) tax credit

(1,406) benefit to buying in Illinois

I will still owe 5.5% of whatever we "sell" it for between us - most likely somewhere around $28,500 (the net amount) or $1,567 - which I would have owed anyway.

So the bottom line (if it would work) would be a net savings of the $1406 Illinois benefit calc'd above, as well as $495 (5.5% of the difference between $37,500 msrp and $28,500 net he would sell it to me). About $1900 savings that I would probably share evenly with him.

IN ADDITION, I would get a car now instead of (who knows when) in Wisconsin.

Don't forget -- he'll get hit with IL car dealer DOC fees, IL title and plate fees; also if he's in Cook County the sales tax is more like 7.5% when you combine the state and county -- would also assume that he has enough tax liability to claim the $7,500 fed tax credit? In any case, I'm a bit surprised WI isn't planning any additional EV credits but with how bad the state finances are in both our states I'm surprised that IL still has funds for ours -- as always it's best to get it while you can. If you noticed, the IL rebate is issued only twice per year (end of Dec and end of June) so if you miss the Dec filing you have another 6 months to see what develops ...

Again, thanks. He's actually in Roscoe so it looks like just the state 6.25% vehicle sales tax.

I did forget the duplicated title and plate fees...I assume the total title and plate fees in Illinois are $100-$200?

The dealer doc fees I would have had here also so that's a wash.

Overall maybe not a huge savings, but it would be a way to get it sooner than later and it certainly wouldn't cost any more (like shipping an orphan from California would).

My dashboard changed from week of Dec 5th to Week of Dec 9th.

Still no VIN or CARWINGS. :(

Looks like some of these are getting more closely grouped together --

Mine just changed from week of Dec 13th to week of Dec 10th ! ... just 3 weeks away now, have VIN and CARWINGS, a Saturday delivery would be great !

Looks like again we should see some changes for deliveries in/around Chicago so report back and let us all know

Validated first IL delivery was November 19th -- other dates getting spread out in December, would assume that as we're this close that those w/o VIN's should get theirs very soon; VIN count still stands at 11:

If we missed some 'lurkers' make your first post if you're getting close !!

Hmm, The delivery date changed to the week of December 10th. I guess everyone including the transportation crew is allowed some R&R during the holiday season??

Been monitoring the Shipping thread and the thinking over there is that at this point you could get your VIN from when the ship leaves the foreign port to when it arrives in US port. Also they are thinking that it takes 7 to 10 days to get from us port to dealer(via rail or truck). If all of this data is to be believed then that would mean our cars are still on a boat and those with vins got them early. That would also mean that those without vins could still arrive into us port at a similar time as those with vins and the vins would come to those without them about 7 to 10 days before they get the car.

Since a CS already has told me that my car is in Long Beach that seems to fly in the face of the thought that it takes 7 to 10 days for the car to get to dealer once it is in port.

I don't know which is more likely, either the CS was wrong about my car being in port and it really still is on a boat and I got my vin early, or the thinking in the shipping thread that it takes 7 to 10 days for the car to get from port to dealer is wrong and the time in port is longer than 7 days(also vins would have to come when ship is close to or in port).

One other thing to consider is that a lot of us, who have been posting in the shipping thread, recently, live very close to the two, major, ports-of-entry on the east coast (Jacksonville, FL and Norfolk, VA).

If cars bound for Chicago come in at Long Beach, CA (which seems really odd, since Norfolk, VA is vastly closer to Chicago than Long Beach, CA, is), you might be working on a completely different timing schedule.

Mine changed from dec 13 to dec 10. I had a voicemail from Nissan and called them back. They said that my biat was in a typhoon and that they need a few extea days to check out the car. My vin is 15115. The lady on the phone said that delivery will be Dec 5.

She activated carwings for me on the phone but my account still shows it as not enabled.
