i have a call into CS asking for a better explanation of what data goes into the circle-building in the eco-indicator.
It stumped that star on the Nissan Leaf phone bank.
the most interesting thing he said was that the car senses pitch and so knows if you are on a hill and adds that into the calculation and also adds that into the bubble-making on the big display.
He had no idea how it takes into account "traffic."

ECO INDICATOR
The ECO indicator displays how economically
the vehicle is being operated.
The meter display is affected by the following
conditions:
. Accelerator pedal operation.
. Brake pedal operation.
. Driving conditions.
. Traffic conditions.
. Heater and air conditioner usage.
. Time the vehicle is not moving while the
vehicle is in the READY to drive mode and
accessories are on.

I also read through the info in the 2011 and 2012 manuals; not much there.
