as of last NIGHT BAR 2 WEnt away.the 1st bar went away only at approx. 20k miles.If this continues at 30k miles i'll have 8 bars left.car still does everything we need it too.

Do you live in a hot climate? Its seems like your Leaf's bars are falling a little fast. That's just my opinion anyhow. I've read on here of some drivers with all 12 bars still after 20,000 Miles. I know it all depends on use, environment, how many quick charges its had, and etc. If you drop down below 9 bars before 5 years or 60,000 Miles your eligible for a fresh pack. The warranty is 5 years or 60,000 Miles for Gradual Capacity Loss and 8 years or 100,00 Miles for "defects in materials or workmanship".

If it were me, once it drops to 8 bars I'd rush over to the nearest Nissan dealer and see about a fresh pack ASAP!

If 8 bars or less still suits your needs I would tend to wait closer to the end of warranty to get a new battery.
You will only get one.

That's a good point. If/when it happens for me I'll probably wait until closer to the end of the 5 years/60,000 miles to get a fresh pack. $5,500 isn't too bad for a new pack (for when the second pack doesn't hold a decent charge). At least Nissan didn't say $18,000 (their manufacturing costs).

update:As of today 32,700 miles ...3rd bar just dropped off.What is my battery capacity now?When the 1 st bar dropped about 3 months later the 2 nd dropped.Now a big time gap for the 3 rd to drop.Is this normal?

I heard that's what it cost to build the batteries back in 2010 and 2011. Today I suspect they can manufacture them for under $10,000. Maybe even $5500.

Epic,

Your experience is similar to my 2011. I lost the first bar after a little more than one year; second bar a month or two after the first; third bar about 10 months after the second; and fourth bar a month or two after the third. I lost the first bar on the replacement battery shortly before the car met its demise.

Gerry , how many miles were on the replacement battery when it lost the 1st bar?The 4th has not dropped off yet. Although, the overall range is low.It is winter .Mainly in the 40-50's.But, i'd say the car can go about35-40 miles on a full charge.

Statistics for loss of first bar on replacement battery installed in 2011 SL on 10/4/2013 at 29,370 miles (original chemistry shipped from Japan):
20,057 miles on battery (odometer at 49,427)
about 14 months on battery
26 QC and 522 L1/L2 charges on replacement battery (56 QC and 1,381 L1/L2 total on car)
227 "Gids" at full charge
AHr=54.14
SOH=82%
Hx=66.69%
V=393.33 at full charge

Highest readings recorded on replacement battery:
30,852 miles at 10/31/2013 (1,212 miles on battery)
278 "Gids" at full charge
393.5 V at full charge
AHr=65.19
? =99.37%
Hlth=98.61%
5 QC and 21 L1/L2 charges on replacement battery (35 QC and 880 L1/L2 total on car)

Last reliable data point:
50,364 miles at 1/3/2015 (20,994 miles on battery)
223 "Gids" at full charge
394.0 V at full charge
AHr=54.01
SOH=82%
Hx=66.38%
27 QC and 547 L1/L2 charges on replacement battery (57 QC and 1,406 L1/L2 total on car)

I hope this data answers your question. I did not include data for the last charge at 50,416 miles because I preheated while plugged in and that always made the indicated battery statistics lower than normal on the 2011. I should also mention that Leaf Spy was upgraded as time went on so later data was recorded with later versions of the software.
