If you have a 2013 S (not SV or SL), then you do not have a heat pump. You have a dry air resistance heater (like a portable space heater for a house) in the dash. The SV and SL models have the same resistance heater along with the heat pump.

Much has been said about the heat pump being less efficient than the A/C system used in 2011 and 2012 models for cooling. I saw higher consumption on the NAV screen energy use displays in the 2015 last summer compared to the 2011 previously, but I believe part of that is due to improvements in accuracy of the energy use displays. I did not notice significant range impact while running the A/C so I suspect the reduction in efficiency is really only a few percent.
