Buying a 2014 LEAF - please help me assess my LEAF SPY results

For comparison, my 2014 Leaf at 41K miles is at 77% SOH. I've treated the battery very well since I purchased it used with 8,700 miles in 2017. At the time LeafSpy reported 100% SOH. I'm located in the midwest for temperature comparisons. I would say compared to mine yours is holding up well...

Found a pressurized cap for brake bleeding

To close out this thread, I used the adapter coupled to a Motive Power Bleeder to bleed the brakes on my 2014 Leaf. I used the "dry" method and kept refilling the reservoir instead of putting the fluid in the Motive bottle. The adapter worked perfectly. For $20 it's a steal.

You are welcome! Let me know how it goes. I plan to do my actual flush and fill this weekend.

Found this pressure cap for $20. Worked perfectly on my 2014 Leaf. I mentioned it in this thread: https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=624400 https://www.cosda.com.tw/brake-bleeder-adapter-for-nissan-sd-1209-6.html

Found a pressurized cap for brake bleeding

Color me skeptical, but this pressure brake bleed cap worked perfectly. Arrived today, taking 19 days to arrive from Taiwan. After work I attached it to the Motive Power Brake Bleeder and attached it to the Leaf's reservoir. Pumped it up to 15 PSI and it didn't drop for about the 5 minutes I...

Landlord with Leaf tenant charging question

Tapping into the hive wisdom. My friend sent me the message below. How would you advise him to make this work for a potential Leaf tenant so everyone wins? Thanks! "I’ve got someone who looked at the apartment and has a leaf. She charges with a regular extension cable. I have screw in fuses in...

Brake maintenance - How to avoid seized brakes

I managed to perform a brake service on the passenger front and rear so far on my 2014 Leaf. I was having bad squealing from a sticking parking brake when I reversed the car. I found this excellent video on rear brake service including the parking brake: https://youtu.be/3REPy7rm4a8

Living the Leaf Life Below 40% SOC and pulse driving - battery protection strategy

I recently made a 40-mile drive on the highway going around 63 mph for most of the trip. Perfect weather. I was about 85% SOH and fully charged. At the end I used about 45% of the battery. I've updated my stats at the link below. Still at 12 bars at 27,559 miles...

Living the Leaf Life Below 40% SOC and pulse driving - battery protection strategy

Last stats as this experiment is probably ending. I'm purchasing a LR EV. Planning to keep the Leaf as a town car but will to start charging to the percent needed to make the car more viable. I was trying to keep the range as high as possible for longer trips but that won't be important with...

Living the Leaf Life Below 40% SOC and pulse driving - battery protection strategy

Update after another 1,000 miles of living below 40% during a hot summer. Stats from last post, 62.48 AHr, 95.53% SOH, 93.90% Hx, stayed stable over the past 6 weeks. I made two longer-range pulse drives this weekend. The first drive went from 100% SOC to low 30's. Numbers dropped to: 60.82AHr...

Living the Leaf Life Below 40% SOC and pulse driving - battery protection strategy

Update: Finally made a long 108 mile RT pulse-driving run (lunch with mom :D ). I L2 charged to 100% (97.1% actual) at home. LeafSpy reported 275 GIDS on a full charge. This was the first time in 34 days I’ve charged beyond 40%. I drove 406 miles in between these dates. Starting stats: Hx...

Center console buttons intermittently not responsive

Anyone else ever experience this? Today while driving was the second time the buttons on the center console stopped functioning. The only button that worked was the on-off button. Even the steering wheel's map and volume buttons weren't functioning. Turning the car off and on again made them...

    Losing SOC *while* L1 charging

An update... Arrived at my course today with 34.6% SOC. 20 minutes later I hit 38% SOC, then it started dropping and I pulled the plug. After the round I plugged back in and the SOC dropped to 33.2% SOC before it started climbing again.

Living the Leaf Life Below 40% SOC and pulse driving - battery protection strategy

Ran across this article of a gentleman in NZ doing the same thing with his 2012 Leaf by keeping the SOC below 40% as he also drives short distances. Early adopters as teachers: a case of extraordinary care of a Leaf battery...
