Do I need this maintenance? !

Thanks for your input guys! I'll look around to see if I can do the filter myself, and probably have the brake fluid changed. The car is basically 3 years old now, and the majority of our trips are less than 5 miles. Summer in Hokkaido can get pretty humid as well. I think the whole brake...

Do I need this maintenance? !

Hey Leafers! I've had my Leaf for almost 1.5 years, and it was a dealer test drive car for a year before that. It only has about 8000 miles on it. Went in for my 2-yearly inspection (a legal inspection here in Japan), and they suggested I get my brake fluid changed and my cabin filter...

    "Pulling" snow?

Yes, I think the only tow hook is the one in the front bumper. I was thinking of using some thick rope and going through all the holes in the tarp, then connected to the tow hook. And just going like 5-6 shovelfuls of snow at a time. At the moment, it's pretty thick and heavy, so even shovelling...

    "Pulling" snow?

Hey Leafers! Quick question. I live in an area of Japan where we get loads of snow. We have a designated spot on our street where snowplows will come to take the snow away if we can get it there. Up until now I've been pushing snow there by hand, but I was wondering about the viability of this...

SO how does the Leaf do in REAL snow in REAL life?

Yeah, they're actually really hardcore about keeping all the main streets moving, but leave the smaller backroads to the individuals that live on them. Our street is only 4 meters wide, so it's hard for the plows to get in. This year it hasn't been too bad since I've had the snowblower to keep...

SO how does the Leaf do in REAL snow in REAL life?

Sapporo is known as the "city with the most snow", so as you can imagine, I was hesitant to get a Leaf. I never found any "real world" videos online of people driving in real DEEP snow on real roads. But we went ahead and bought it anyways, and here are the results of my findings. (A link...

    Bang-for-your-buck Charging?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I don't even know how to search for it. It seems that while charging the Leaf at home (200V in Japan, takes 8 hours 0-100%), the "top" 20% of the battery takes the longest to charge. Is this true, or am I just imagining it? Our house has a...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Yeah, I was kinda wanting the Bose stereo, but I found out that even if I could get my hands on a used '13, most of them don't have the Bose, as that's an option in Japan...! The dealers all recommended that I just use the money I save and go get a nice system installed for way less, haha.

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Yeah, we do have the CHAdeMO port on ours! I did a lot of research before deciding on the one that we got (I don't know if it's considered a '12 or '13 in the US equivalent because things are a bit different here...), and decided that the updated heater, slightly better range, B mode and the few...

    Road Trips for noobies?

They say the dealer quickcharge should take 30 minutes to get you to about 80%. Don't know anything more than that :D

    Road Trips for noobies?

Thanks Ron! The speed limits here are painfully slow, going up to maybe 100kmh on the freeway, but for the most part, 40-50 kmh around the city or beaches. Thanks for the chart!

    Road Trips for noobies?

Hey gang! Will be picking up our Leaf here in a couple weeks. I've been reading through the road trip threads, and am often overwhelmed by the "technical jargon" about amps, charging stations, special extension cords, and all kinds of other things. I'm a COMPLETE noob when it comes to electric...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Yes, I think all the Leafs in Japan come with both chargers. I've never seen one that didn't have the big one and the small one! Those are the "original" plates since this was a test drive car. But I think they'll be changed when the car is registered to us.

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Found a black "G" Leaf as they call them here in Japan. I think it's the SL everywhere else, basically the top-of-the-line model. It was a dealer test-drive car that's in perfect shape with 6K KM. New price in Japan is $38K, with the option of a $7000 rebate, but we got ours for $18K. Should...

How much would you pay for a 30 km range boost?

Sorry guys. What I was trying to express was not dependent on the model year number, because they're different from the US ones. Let's rephrase things like this: There are 2 dealer test drive cars we're looking at: -Pre-Updated version: top of the line with 9000 km for $20,500 after taxes...

How much would you pay for a 30 km range boost?

The "old" Leaf before the model change/update is the 2012 here, and the other one is post-update. I don't think there is a "cold weather package" in Japan, as they all have the steering wheel heater, etc. As for the warrantee, they're both still under the manufacturer warrantee, with like...

How much would you pay for a 30 km range boost?

Hey gang! We're looking at a couple of different Leafs here in Japan. The prices and options are different from the US, so basically the difference between the 2013 and 2012 are the wheels, heater system and slightly more range (30 km). There are 2 dealer test drive cars we're looking at...

What's a quick way to tell the difference between....

Ah, excellent! For the untrained, it seems the quickest way is to just open the hatch and look at the shape of the trunk "wall"!
