NissanConnect EV / Telematics Hardware Update, for the post-2G world

Does anyone know what this upgrade implies for Leafs on the used market? I advise people on used Leafs and my concern is for lease-return Leafs over the next few years Two questions: A) will this upgrade be available for the foreseeable future, so that folks buying used Leafs can get it in 6...

Goodbye Nissan Leaf, hello Kia Soul EV

I drive a 2014 SV Leaf with about 6k miles left on the lease, and I'm seriously thinking about getting a Soul EV. The screen is better, the software is better, the app is better, and the car has a stronger B mode regen than the Leaf. I test drove it for the first time yesterday. I'm struck...

Using the Leaf for power in a Blackout: MY "Leaf to Home"

Has anyone done this setup on a 2014 or newer Leaf? I'm asking because it worked on my 2012 Leaf, with the Xantrex ProWatt SW 1000Watt inverter attached between the motor case and the 12V battery positive terminal, and I was able to run my fridge (1.8A, 135W continuous). Now I have a 2014...

    EVs Blocking Charging Stations

I've seen this several times at the airport parking of DCA (Reagan National, in Washington DC). There was a Model S with the J1772 adapter plugged in, but the charger cable was on the charger. Did someone unplug them, or are they prepared for a friend to drop in and hook up the EVSE before the...

5 Mistakes Made at Various EV Charging Stations

Oftentimes, you can "reset" a charger by pressing and holding the green start and red stop buttons together. Keep them pressed, and the charger software will reset, unless it has certain error codes. This has worked for me at eVgo Nissan-made DC fast chargers.

Relying solely on level 1 charging

on page CH-7 of my 2014 Owners Manual, in the "Trickle charge" section, just after the page with the "Charging Time Information" bar graph with a blue bar for "Normal Charge", a green bar for "Trickle Charge" and an orange bar for "Quick charge", it says Trickle charging is not recommended for...

    Request for charging at workplace

There is a lot of effort in 120V workplace charging. There is an EE professor at the US Naval Academy, Bob Bruninga, who is an expert in this area. Check out http://www.aprs.org/EV-charging-everywhere.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The DOE has 120V charging as part of...

Dusty Cars: A new trend by Leaf owners in drought-ridden CA?

Actually, the only part that really needs washed regularly is the backside. Mine gets dirty there about 10 times faster than any other part, just because of aerodynamics. I use a glass of water and some paper towels to wipe off only the backside down to the license plate.

Splitting the timer for weekends - feature request

I had something similar happen. I just started on TOU rates on a pilot program PEPCO is running in the Washington DC area. They've installed a dedicated smart meter only on my existing evse. The on-peak window is noon-8pm M-F. Weekends are completely off-peak. I therefore programmed my...

PSA - Keep Those EV Power Cords Tidy

    Battery charge levels and times

There is a filter for that, so you can turn on or off the superchargers. As for charging, I used to drive a 2012 Leaf with the 3.3 kW charger, and I'm now in a 2014 with 6.0 kW (the Leaf spec from Nissan says 6.6 kW). Even in the 2012, there were only two times that I was constrained by...

Using the Leaf for power in a Blackout: MY "Leaf to Home"

Emergency power systems like this are now sold as kits. http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=17189" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I would eventually like to see it as a 120V outlet mounted to the car as an OEM option.

Sheetz to install electric car chargers in some locations

UPDATE: There are now five new listings on Plugshare describing L3 chargers at Sheetz which are supposed to be in operation by March 31, 2014. They are at some of the same sites that were in the original announcement, but some new sites as well: Sheetz 498 in Blairsville Sheetz 187 in Altoona...
