Mythbusters tire pressure testing: +5 psi = 6% fuel savings

Keep in mind air never leaks into a tire. Air is always leaking out. Therefore, if you set your pressure once a month at the gas station, when the tires are warm, you are running UNDERINFLATED all the time. Tire pressure should be set as follows: Overfill the tire slightly. Park the car...

What amp 220V plug to install outside? Plug Share Options??

The best target is for a Nema 14-50 with #8 wire and a 40 Amp breaker. The reason is that this is a very common cut-off point for faster 6.6kw charging and is the spec for the majority of EVSE models. It's also compatible with RVs and Welders. Personally, I chose to use #6 wire since it loses...

What amp 220V plug to install outside? Plug Share Options??

You can install a CS-100 on a 30 amp circuit. Send the mainboard to clipper creek and they'll reprogram it down to 30 Amp limit. They can change it a higher level if you ever upgrade the circuit. Nate

What amp 220V plug to install outside? Plug Share Options??

Nema 14-50. Get a hot tub module, they are cheap and outdoor ready. http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/100193650?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=50+amp&storeId=10051&N=5yc1v&R=100193650#.UXSLAkpJw98" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Pull wire for 60 amps, but breaker it for your...

    Modified wheel-leading air deflectors

Forged wheels would make a bigger difference, reducing the rotational weight. Chevy Volt has forged wheels, and there was a poster here who put some on his Leaf. Nate

UPDATE-Picked up a new 2013 Leaf SV, but with a problem...

The dealership will receive a seat cover, which is the cloth part that attaches over the foam and the frame, which will be attached with c-rings. The repair may take a while, but it will be perfect. What I would do, is call the dealer and have them swap the entire rear bottom seat (takes 10...

Blink charges for time plugged in

I really think the Chevy Volt is going to drive down charging prices. After all, they HAVE to compete with gas in order to convince someone to charge a Chevy Volt. Honestly, why can't we just pay for the Kwh? Put each charger within reach of four parking spaces, and put them WAY out in the...

Anybody use an extension cord with 220v?

Ask if they will replace the breaker with a GFCI unit. Also, consider getting Leviton Wetguard connectors. They cost more, but are waterproof. It's a small price to pay for piece of mind. The life you save may be your own...

    2013 Low-friction brakes: Bolt-on upgrade to 2011/2012?

This might simply be spring clips. Does the 2011/2012 have them? If not, there's your retrofit! Nate

Good deal on OEM Nissan 'Emergency' EVSE?

My buddy has clipper creek units for $375. They work great, but can't be upgraded to 240v, and look very different; hard to say if they will care when you turn it in after the lease... Nate

spy reports on the new 2013 from smyrna plant

Well, I mean, it LOOKS like the Nissan Leaf, but there's duct tape over the logo, so you really can't be certain. Nate

Battery Degradation - Capacity and Efficiency

As my RAV4 EV began to lose capacity, it used more electricity to go the same distance. It was the last thing on my mind, however. The issue had to do with impedance going up in the battery pack. Nate

Just became a Leaf + Volt family

Just so you know, the Amp difference between L1 and L2 is only 4 Amps. If you have 100 Amp service at your home, then your current L1 + L2 is 12 +16 Amps = 28 Amps. With two L2s you go to 32 Amps, a difference of 4 amps. I'll bet you a dollar your panel can handle it. Nate
