Does not make sense, BUT it has happened before. I returned my 2013 S after 3 yrs, and the best incentive offer was 5 months out. Missed the boat, and ended up vehicle disposition.

I'm not convinced dealer would do anything beyond NMAC is offering. Market price is way below than residuals, so there's no way dealer will pass any savings (if there's any) from NMAC to customers. For example, my 2013 SV with 45000+ miles got $6500 offer from CarMax. Residual was $14000+ (41%...

One can always buy a GAP coverage from your insurance. For BMW, GAP insurance is included in the lease contract/payment. RISK MITIGATED.

It depends on your insurance company/your coverage. Most of them won't, but few of them will pay you the difference back if the car value is higher than your pay-off to the leasing company.

Yes, there could be a difference... in fact a huge one. NMAC continuously offers huge discount for lease-end buy-out, which you do not see if you had purchased it out-right from the beginning.

That's because of different lease contract. Read the post more carefully. All $8k offer is for 2 yr lease term of 2013 model which has higher residuals. make sense? 3yr lease term had $7500 offer back in April 2016.

i think OP was referring to the sale/lease buy out of 2013 Leaf, not 2016.

According to the pay-off letter printed from NMAC your account page, "As a captive finance company, Nissan-Infinity LT cannot sell the leased vehicle to you directly..." just FYI... I don't know how you get around that.
