I saw a post on the Prius forum and I thought it is important information for those with solar and in PG&E territory.
I qoute:
Here is the link to the PG&E documents

Also, it appears that even E6 will go away, after...
It's almost the end of March and PG&E is supposed to transition those on E9 out to another rate.
Has anyone talked PG&E regarding the change? If I don't like the new rate that PG&E put me into, can I request a different rate without the mandatory minimum period (if any)?
Other than the 65-mile round trip, what is your regular round trip mileage? If it is 40 miles or below, you should usually be able to go full electric with the Volt.
I just wrote a Matlab script to evaluate the changes. I pulled the hourly usage over the past year from PG&E and input the rates schedules for E6, E9 and the new EV-A.
My current yearly cost under E9 is $37. This will increase to $75 under E6 and $87 under EV-A. The difference between E6 and...
I found an older outdated FAQ page that states a warranty of one year.

The warranty clause however does not appear in the latest FAQ page so I suspect that the warranty does not apply to new upgrades. I am...
Another option: for about $30 more than the EVSE Upgrade, get the OpenEVSE unit from GlennD who builds them as a hobby

In this way, you have TWO units and you can leave the Nissan EVSE in the car.
That looks like a Nema 14-50 plug to me (240V).
The EVSE upgrade is about $330 (to support both 240V and 120V charging).
For another $30+, you get ANOTHER unit and it not only has indicator lights, you also have a real time clock which supports time-of-use charging and easily adjustable...
GlennD has one for sale now at $350 + $17 shipping. 32A and has timer functions to determine when to charge.

GlennD assembles OpenEVSEs as a hobby. You might contact him to see if he has one for sale. I got one from him and it was well built. IMO, the price of the upgrade service is not worth it because you can get an additional EVSE for a little bit more money.
An EVSE with timer would be useful here.
I assume on the 2014 Leaf you can set the departure time? If so, set the departure time on the Leaf to 7am (for example) and set the cutoff time on the EVSE to 5.45am. You will roughly end up with 80% charge.
Would you consider the open source OpenEVSE? I have one such unit from GlennD and it's well-built.
He currently has a 24A unit for sale at $275 + $20 shipping:

There was about $1.5m left when the plug was pulled this afternoon. Not sure the reason why. Maybe they wanted to avoid problems if they had mis-tracked the funds.
