    2013 Nissan Leaf - won't start

Heater failures are a well known issue. If you do a search you will find detailed teardown that locate the source of the failure. My memory is that Toyota used the same unit and Toyota has been taken care of customers who experienced failures. This appears to be design or manufacturing defect.

    Intermittent Heater on 2011

I apologize. I meant to post this in the problems/troubleshooting forum. Can a moderator move it or delete and I'll repost.

    Intermittent Heater on 2011

The heater on my 2011 has suddenly become intermittent three days ago. Most of the time I can't get heat but sometimes it will come on. I took it to the dealer and read the codes which showed a bad ptc. But when they gave the car back the heater was working again and did so until I parked the...

Video of Nissan Exec Promising Battery LIfe

Hopefully someone can help me with this. I remember seeing a video, probably posted on youtube, where a Nissan executive made statements about how long the company expected the Leaf battery to last. I can't remember exactly what he said but it was along the lines that he would expect them to...

Suggested Maintenance Beyond What's in the Guide?

So there really is nothing to lubricate, even up front in the steering mechanism? No grease fittings in the linkages at all? What keeps them from going dry?

Suggested Maintenance Beyond What's in the Guide?

The Leaf finally needs rear brake pads and the Nissan Service and Maintenance Guide only calls for inspections, rotating the tires, replacing the brake fluid and the in-cabin air filter. That's all the way out to 120,000 miles. Nothing else? Nothing to grease? No other PM of any kind? I ask...

Independent Service Shop Recommendation Portland OR

Sorry about posting in the wrong place. As far as new brakes, to be fair I haven't pulled the wheels so I can't be sure the pads are fully worn but since the regeneration was reduced about a year and a half ago (I think by a software update) I can feel the brakes coming on whereas before they...

Independent Service Shop Recommendation Portland OR

The Leaf is about due for a brake job and I'm loath to bring the car to my local dealer if I can help it. Is there anyone from the Portland area who can recommend a good independent Nissan shop?

Bridgestone EP422 tires swapped for Michelin Primacy MXV4s.

After two sets of the OEM tires that lasted around 12,000 miles each I've just about worn out my Michelin Primacy MXV4s after 25,000 miles. I enjoy tossing the Leaf around in the corners and am wondering if anyone has run the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 and if so what they thought of them.

    Entire Leaf Unresponsive

It's possible. I don't think so but you never know. If one is distracted it certainly could be easy to forget to whack the button even if you remember to turn the lights off. Whatever happened the battery is certainly getting a deep discharge cycle. It's been charging just about an hour and...

    Entire Leaf Unresponsive

Wow. You guys are great. Answers in minutes. Thank you. It wasn't the fob. I tried the other one. So I put a trickle charger on the 12 volt battery. That perked the car up a bit with "no key detected" coming up (even thought I had it right there. That gave me hope so I pulled our other...

    Entire Leaf Unresponsive

Well this is interesting. After an uneventful Saturday I came out to find the Leaf completely unresponsive this morning. It's been charging over night and when I get in the start button lights but nothing happens. The car is also unresponsive to the key fob. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Nissan Battery Pack Warranty Details

I'm going to venture that even if Nissan knows what the curve is (which they may not yet with enough certainty to make them confident) they wouldn't say. Just imagine the contingent liability if they got it wrong. Pressure to refine the warranty certainly seems like a good idea. At a...

    Battery Standby Losses

I leave a solar cell panel to keep the 12v for my outboard boat charged up and it seems to work fine. Even produces enough power that if it rains and the bilge pump kicks in the battery is plenty strong to start the engine. Of course that's in full sunlight at the height of summer. Does the...

    Battery Standby Losses

So all in counting the wall to battery losses for the Tesla are about 32%. That's 26% from the charger and another 6% loss to the circulation pump. A third of the energy lost, but still not material in light of the cost of the battery pack. I wonder how bad the derating is going to be for the...
