2020 SV CarPlay crackling sound?

Just bought a 2020 SV. While on the phone connected through CarPlay the reception is crackling and unclear, it’s fine through Bluetooth. I’ve tried different cables and have the latest update on my IOS? What else should I try or does anyone have a solution?

I heard that today for the first time... I phone 11 running latest software. First time I've ever heard that crackling on a phone call.

Re: 2020 SV CarPlay?

By turning off vehicle transmission I was able to fix this issue. I think the ATT 4G is interfering somehow with my service. I’m not sure if that’s the real reason, but turning it off solved my problem and CarPlay works fine now.

Carplay Issues (connecting, static/crackling sound)

I had a 2018 Leaf SV for three years and never had any real issues with head unit or Carplay. Swapped for 2021 about a month ago and have many issues. The head unit has slightly larger screen and other interface differences so I am guessing different model.
1. When having a call or using Siri the voice coming out of speaker breaks up and is choppy. The person on other end can hear fine but in car you can barely understand. It isn't 100% but at least 75%.
2. If you receive a call on Microsoft Teams via Carplay the head unit crashes and reboots.
3. If you have phone plugged in and turn off car when you turn car on the radio is automatically on to FM and cannot be controlled for a time while head unit boots.
4. If you have iPhone attached when car is turned on the head unit activates FM radio and is uncontrollable until the head unit boots.
5. Sometimes the phone connects in iPod mode rather than Carplay mode and takes several tries to fix.

This happens with my SE 2 and my wife's 12 Pro Max. Neither had issues with the 2018. Is there any kind of updates or patches for head unit software that I can get?

Re: 2021 Leaf lots of Carplay / Radio issues?

I think it has to do with the phone and head particular head unit.

We habe 2 2019 Plus Leafs. Car Play and Android Auto (I have an iPhone and a A71 5G) work perfect for me, but my wife has a horrible time using AA with her Galaxy.

If hearing the call works fine but when your phone tries to push another audio stream, it gets choppy, it's a bluetooth interference problem. I've had it happen when driving near places of interference from residential wifi that is broadcasting at illegal power levels. When it happens, check if it seems to happen in the same area or if it is just random.

Never used Teams, so a unit crash would probably be a unit issue.

Can't say I've ever seen that behavior on mine, but it is a year old, 2020 model.

Now that I have seen. I put a shortcut on my head unit for Android Auto and set the unit to "manual" mode for those connection types. That way I can turn it on when I want (or off) without the phone or other weird stuff happening. Not a perfect fix for you, but setting your head unit up for manual mode so you can turn it on and off by one button might solve a lot of those weird startup issues.

my cell phone call audio when plugged into the USB port and using carplay is choppy and distorted some times...no issues making calls using bluetooth...no other issues using Carplay.

Re: 2021 Leaf lots of Carplay / Radio issues?

I have a 2021 Leaf SV and have the same crackling noise when Siri talks, as well as when I am on a phone call.
I have tried different types of iPhone cables and still have the same issue. BTW, I am not experiencing this issue on my wifes 2018 Mazda CX5.

I finally got it work.
1. From my iPhone, I went to the CarPlay settings, under MY CAR, swiped left NissanConnect and clicked Forget.
2. Unplugged the iPhone cable from the phone, then replugged it.
3. Setup CarPlay again.
4. Voila! No more crackling.

I even tried aftermarket cable & still no crackling.
Hope this helps you.

I have the same issue with Microsoft Teams. Also Carplay just random shuts off or I have to unplug/plug several times before Carplay starts up. Very annoying.....

Re: 2021 Leaf lots of Carplay / Radio issues?

Many of the issues that users have with CarPlay on iPhones is a USB access control when locked issue.

To minimize issues, do the following on your iPhone:

Navigate to Settings/Touch Id (Face ID)/(scroll to the bottom of the list to) Allow Access when Locked/USB Accessories/ON

Giving your iPhone access to the USB accessory that is your CarPlay enabled car, will solve the issues you are having connecting the iPhone to your car.
