DALLAS — The first fracking trial in Texas opens in Dallas today. Bob and Lisa Parr of Wise County are suing Aruba Petroleum for property and personal damages which the couple claims they have suffered as a result of Aruba’s fracking operations. The Parr property was surrounded by natural gas frackers in 2009. The Parrs charge that frackers have so polluted their air and water as to destroy their right to peacefully enjoy their home and property and properly care for their pets and livestock, some of whom have died as a result of the fracking pollution, according to the complaint against Plano, Texas-based Aruba Petroleum.

Just a tiny taste:
Christine and Tim learn later that day from an anonymous source that Gilbow Oilfield Services have spilled approximately 9000 gallons of produced water the day before. Christine reports the spill to the RRC on January 10th and also requests that Alisa Rich of Wolf Eagle Environmental come to the property and test the soil where the spill occurred. We also request that the drilling mud that has been spread out all over the site be tested. Wolf Eagle Environmental’s test results received in February show the following:
“Laboratory results of ambient air samples confirmed the presence of numerous hydrocarbons indentified as Recognized and Suspected human carcinogens and neurotoxins, (Benzene, Dichlorodifluoromethane (F12), Dichlorotetrafluoroethane (F114), Toluene, m&p Xylenes, Propane, Isobutane, Butane, Isopentane, Pentane, Methyl Pentane, Hexane, Methyl Cyclohexane). The compounds identified are known to emanate from processes related to the natural gas industry. The laboratory results confirmed fugitive air emissions exceeding TCEQ Effects-Screening Levels (ESLs) for Benzene (Long-Term), and Propane (Short-Term and Long-Term). In addition, concentrations of Methane were identified in levels that exceed ambient air background concentrations. Methane is identified as an asphyxiant.
