My LEAF, 2014 SL bought just over 7 years ago, just lost a capacity bar. Sometime in the past couple of weeks. Roughly 69,000 miles. Currently at 69,444 miles.
SOH is currently at 85.23%, the lowest observed.

Came across https://www.tred.com/buy/nissan/leaf/2013/1N4AZ0CP6DC402795. It's a 6 bar loser '13 SV w/60K miles. Can't tell if he's actually got CHAdeMO or not. He's trying to sell for $5499. Umm.... right.

I noticed a Carfax link on the left. No surprise it was built 2/2013.

Owner 2 had it serviced in Dublin, CA. Dublin is a very hot part of the Bay Area, as I posted at https://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=533224#p533224. I also noticed what looks like a BART parking permit hung on the mirror. Maybe that guy would park it at https://www.bart.gov/stations/dubl and take BART somewhere to work?

Or even better, he took advantage of free charging and cooked the LEAF all day long at 100% SoC.

That would be another victim of the free charging insanity.

At first, I thought you were implying Nissan NCTC, which would've been impossible since it hadn't launched by 3 or 4/2013. Looks like it was 1st leased out on 4/1/2013. I never had it on my 1st leased Leaf with CHAdeMO w/lease that began at end of July 2013. https://www.nissanusa.com/ev/media/pdf/incentives/nissan-leaf-incentive-604.pdf has launch dates by market.

That said, my work has had free L2 charging since before I started there in early July 2013. I like the insanity... :)

I've yet to meet someone who abuses a service who does not "like" it.

That said, I wasn't including workplace charging in my indictment of free public charging. The NCTC program is a prime example of the idiocracy although I think the free charging at BART was something else. They got rid of it, by the way. Due to the abuse.

Who wudda thunk ??!?

Just lost another bar recently (around 60800 miles). I'm now down to 7/12 bars (01/2013 build).

I don't drive much so it isn't an issue yet, but I'm definitely looking around for my next electric car. I know a lot more now. One thing that's got me concerned now is the battery fire issue. My co-worker's Bolt went up and took part of his house with it. At this point, they've lost almost everything due to smoke and water damage despite the fire not consuming the house. Reading up more on the issue, it's not confined to the Bolt so it's another factor to consider. I know Nissan isn't putting a lot of effort into the Leaf, but I still really like it more than other cars. As far as I know, it's not randomly catching too.

2014 Leaf SL in Connecticut and then New York. Leafspy 8/ 1/ 21. 61 days and another 2,746 miles. Now at 85,326 miles. State of health down from 82.17 to 80.12 and Hx from 75.65 to 71.75. 4.2 miles/ kWh at 43.1 mph average.

I've never heard of an old leaf spontaneously combusting, but I haven't diligently searched for it, either.

My car still has 11 bars, to my great surprise. I expect it to drop one any day. Posting this statement will probably trigger it!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/seattlenissanleaf/posts/5089184554446274/ has a '13 Leaf built 3/2013 which is down to 5 capacity bars left. He says in part:
"- I always charged to 100% and very rarely quick charged (20 times total until this fall when I needed to start driving my daughter to high school)
...
104,000 miles and 44.75% SOH"

I'm guessing the crap chemistry combined with the charging to 100% is why it's got so much loss as he's in a mild climate.

Is he planning on doing a muxsan pack upgrade?

I had put this in a another thread, but this past week a 2013 owner pulled up next to me at the charger. 50K miles 12 bars and 86% SoH.

Not too many 12 bar 2013s left out there. He said he was religious about keeping the car between 20 and 80% SoC.

Hi, this is probably covered elsewhere but I've been unable to find it. My October 2013 Leaf is now at 9 bars, which is fine as it's basically a shopping trolley, but as it's approximately 75% capacity, when I charge to 80%, is it 80% of the original 100% or 80% of the now 75%.? It shows a range of 90km when charged to 80%, and another 15km if I occasionally charge to 100% (eco mode). As the battery is now degraded, would charging it to 100% frequently do any extra harm, or should I keep charging to 80% for the foreseeable future to preserve it as much as possible? Thanks. ;)

Good question! As best we can figure out (meaning: guess) a degraded battery should still be charged to 80% of whatever capacity it currently has left. Does it make a big difference? Probably not, for post-Canary packs, unless the weather or the battery is Hot. In those two cases I'd try to do 80 or 90% of remaining capacity, while if the battery is cool you should be fine charging to 100% as long as you don't let it sit for many days that way.

My take is that, if you need the range, then charge to %100 but don't leave it at a high state of charge for long. If you don't need the range, enable 80% mode.

FWIW, I have my charge timer enabled for 80% mode but I have 80% mode disabled for override charging.

That way, when I plugin for overnight charging, I always get an 80% charge. Do adhoc charging via the override button, I can get a 100% charge.

I did that too, with my 2013. You set the timer for 80%, but then disable the 80% limit in the global settings for the car. That way when the timer is overridden the car can charge to 100%. It's called, IIRC, "Long Life Mode" in the global settings, and you disable it. If you then set the charge timer to start and stop at the exact same time every day, with the 80% limit enabled for the timer, you can charge to 80% without having to keep setting the timer, and charge to 100% just by pressing the Timer override.

To answer your remaining unanswered question. It's 80% of the remaining 75% capacity, which would be ~60% (the calculation is: 0.8 x 0.75 = 0.6) of its original capacity.

Recently lost 4th Bar. See my signature. Located where its hot as heck! But I almost never charge when above 90 degrees and almost always charge at 3am. Only charge to 100% when I need to for a specific trip. I hope to upgrade to a new or newer Leaf, or find a 40kwh pack for an upgrade. Not sure yet which way to go.
