Old news. Charged at one of the high power locations 2 weeks ago...

So in that announcement, there isn't a lot of new information, just repeating some information that was announced last summer.

That said, they claim they will be installing "in 40 metropolitan areas across the US". I guess we now know three of them (Belmont CA, Hollywood FL, and Seattle WA). Any insight on what the other 37 areas might be? EVgo has been very tight-lipped about their actual plans.

Tesla; 12 plugs, 12 stations, 12 cars charging.

EA; 12 plugs, 6 stations, 6 cars charging AND plugs can only reach 6 parking spaces.

EVgo; 12 plugs, 6 stations, 12 car charging AND cables are easily long enough to reach two parking spaces each.

This is nice

I can't wait to see installations like this from EVgo. In the Northeast, I have yet to come across an EVgo station with more than one, nominally 50kW, charger. In reality, most are limited to 100A (some support 120A), so you really only get 35-40kW out of them. Lame compared to EA.

Well so far, we only have 5 in the Seattle area so the rollout has not reached my town yet but I already have a 150/150 kw combo station less than 2 miles from my house so Seattle is a good location. I am doing a focus group which will require 6 trips to downtown which puts me 1.2 miles from the Whole Foods Broadway location.

Charging stations in metro areas are all well and good but, I can't drive from Milwaukee, WI to Minneapolis, MN. There are Level III chargers in Madison area but none between there and MSP. Guess I could find some Level II chargers along the way and make it a two day trip. NOT.

To be fair I've never considered my Leaf to be a good road trip car. An awesome urban commuter and grocery getter yes. Beyond that, not so much. If I was going up there I would just rent a car.

Evgo just bought Plugshare. Not sure that's great for the open market, but it does seem Evgo wants to be a contender.
My 1st reaction was "what?" Apparently, it did happen: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210714005339/en/EVgo-and-Recargo-Join-Forces-to-Accelerate-EV-Market-Growth.

It does concern me about their neutrality. I hope it continues and EVgo doesn't umm.... do things to stack the deck in their favor.

Just stopped by my favorite EVGO charging station. Imagine my surprise to find two 50KW stations with with 3 plugs each! 1 CCS, 1 CHADEMO, and a Tesla plug! Fenton Parkway location in San Diego. There's also a level 2 charger there as well. I suspect that the Tesla supercharger station down the road is substantially cheaper to charge at but I have seen Teslas here before charging with CHADEMO adaptors.

I am a little surprised that evgo didn't go to a higher power charger if replacing the unit.

Well they did in some locations but there is a question on the Tesla adapter. Is there a higher power version? As it stands, in my area it seems about ¾ got one or the other. Most of the higher power stations are in Seattle though...

From Plugshare CEO

"Critical things that are not changing:
The entire Recargo team’s focus on enhancing the EV driver experience and accelerating EV adoption.
Our commitment to data protection and privacy. EVgo will not gain access to the PlugShare database to use as a marketing tool.
Our product commitments across the Web, Android™ and iOS™ and new platforms like Android Auto™ and CarPlay™.
Above all, our focus on and commitment to you, the driver. "

Unit is a revamped one. The card reader is different and a credit card reader is installed. Software is different too. Probably cost too much to upgrade the power. The Tesla plug and cable replaced the CHADEMO plug on the main body and the CHADEMO plug was moved to the left side in a bolt on holder. It's not an adaptor for the CHADEMO plug but a whole cable and plug assembly.

Have pics or Plugshare links?

Stuff like these are still CHAdeMO + CCS chargers with the CHAdeMO to Tesla adapters in the metal box on the side and an extra long cable w/Tesla connector on the end. That's why the CHAdeMO plug is off to the side and plugged in there. It's both the adapter and a "holster".

Keep in mind EVgo uses at these vendors for DC FCs w/CCS (and several different models from some): BTC Power, ABB, Signet, Delta, Efacec.

Actually it is an adapter. Since only one side can be used at a time, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. On the X2 Extreme stations where both sides can charge at once, I have yet to see the Tesla adapter being added. Not enough parking in most cases to connect 3 cars so interested to see which plug becomes disabled?

https://www.facebook.com/groups/chevyboltevowners/posts/2905651789746428/ (you need to be a member of that group) showing 4 new DC FCs (looks ilke 2 Signet and 2 Delta), all dual standard (CCS and CHAdeMO) in Gardena, CA coming soon. Couldn't find a Plugshare marker for it yet.
