Everybody wants it to be over. If we can all just be responsible for a little while longer, maybe it can be. And for now that includes people with vaccine or disease-derived immunity too. It's not just about whether or not you personally can become ill with Covid. Pulling together isn't always "socialism". Sometimes it's just decency.

For a generation the Republican Party has been trying to eradicate decency from American society, in order to win elections in a country where they are a minority, by appealing to our selfishness, and they have succeeded beyond their wildest expectations. We're in real trouble.

Oilpan just says stupid things to get everyone riled up. It was nice not having him around for a while. If you check testing numbers in Texas those are down quite a bit.
We continue to be the laughingstock of the world when it comes to how we have handled the virus. Brazil is doing their best to take over the throne but they are a 3rd world nation at best. They also have a leader who thinks covid is inconvenient like the treasonous president that we just voted out.
We will never get to where we want to be until the knuckle walkers get their heads out of their okoles.

For those in So Cal, Central Valley or on your way between Nor Cal and So Cal, if you're not eligible yet per CA guidelines and had hesitancy about CSUB given what their web page said... finally https://www.csub.edu/vaccines has been updated to say
Now Open to Everyone 16 and Older

The CSUB Mass Vaccination Hub is now open to everyone 16 years and older. The hub is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center. Appointments can be made at California’s My Turn website or you may simply walk in without an appointment.

The vaccinations are free, and the entire process takes approximately 40 to 60 minutes.
They were being way way underutilized (https://www.bakersfield.com/news/gov-gavin-newsom-urges-kern-residents-to-get-vaccinated/article_9df466d4-941a-11eb-aa13-e7fc9156bf31.html mentions they can do 5400/day but were averaging 900/day.)

Per CA and my county's guidelines, I'm not eligible yet but I got a leftover Pfizer dose from a Walgreens in Antioch, CA (over 80 miles from home). I posted more about it at https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/coronavirus.183324/page-1206#post-5436186.

I'm worried about CA's floodgates opening on April 15th (everyone becomes eligible) due to eligible people in the Bay Area having problems getting appointments, which I couldn't even make yet. There could be a massive supply vs. demand imbalance starting that day.

Interesting

Kern County opened for all about a week ago. The county website would ask your zipcide and then give you as passcode to use on the CA site. Limited appointments here in my small town. I snagged one and got the Moderna last week. Couldn't get one in town for my wife and had to drive to Bakersfield.

Bakersfield had tons of openings. And at their fairgrounds they are doing a mass clinic using Pfizer. Fairly busy in the morning but lots of unused time slots later in the day. Thousands maybe.

https://myturn.ca.gov/ tells me ineligible because I don't meet the criteria at https://www.sccgov.org/sites/covid19/Pages/COVID19-vaccine-information-for-public.aspx. I'm not yet 50 years old nor do I have pre-existing condtions nor am I in some essential industry.

Many folks are driving to CSUB from LA since I guess they either can't get appointments easily or are also running into the same eligiblity hurdle. For sure the major pharmacies here (e.g. Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS) when I checked last week refuse to let me book because I don't meet CA guidelines. I'd have to wait unti April 15th when everyone 16+ statewide becomes eligible. To me, the demand will be crushing at that point as eligible people in the SF Bay Area are having some trouble getting appointments now.

My county (Santa Clara) per https://www.latimes.com/projects/california-coronavirus-cases-tracking-outbreak/covid-19-vaccines-distribution/ isn't doing well in terms of doses per 100K compared to much of the rest of the Bay Area.

Until I got a shot in Antioch, I had contemplated going to CSUB, which is over 250 miles each way since I'd have to take highway 99 for more charging options/backups. I would've had to have exhausted other much closer choices first.

My housemate and I had been trying several times a day/night - and more in her case - to get an appointment for the J&J vaccine, as I'm very concerned about getting a variant after getting vaccinated. She managed to get us both signed up on Saturday, for tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed, but I'll believe it when my arm is sore. Hang in there, Cwerdna: states are now rapidly opening up eligibility. Not as fast as they are discarding vital restrictions, but still fairly fast...

I already got my 1st Pfizer dose on Friday because I was worried about demand crush on April 15. I spent over 3.5 afternoons calling many pharmacies near and far. Often the answer was one of these: no supply, no wait list, wait list full (or very long like 100+ people), wait list closed, WL only for eligible people.

https://abc7news.com/health/contra-costa-co-expands-vaccine-eligibility-to-16+/10459630/ happened on 3/30, but that doesn't help me as they ONLY would take people who live or work in that county. I don't.

I'm now not too worried about my 2nd dose. Once April 15th hits, I will be able to book an appointment myself and if it looks like availability is poor locally, I'm sure I can get one from somewhere further (e.g. 50 to 100 miles away). https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/info-by-product/pfizer/index.html (for Pfizer) under scheduling says:
Persons age 16 years and older should receive 2 doses at least 21 days apart.
Second doses should be administered as close to the recommended interval as possible.
If it is not feasible to adhere to the recommended interval, you may schedule the second dose up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first dose; there is limited efficacy data beyond this window, but a dose after this time does not need to be repeated.

I drove 177.5 miles on Friday in my Bolt and finished it with 41 kWh of free juice from EA :D which I posted about in the EA thread.

Correct we were not eligible but Kern County opened up the county to everyone. They provided an over ride code to put into the CA website at the bottom so that anyone could schedule.

I can't remember the exact reason they gave. Something akin to most of Kern County fell under a higher medical index due to poor living standards. I also wondered if maybe the county was finding doses were going unused. Kern County is fairly conservative and probably has a high proportion that are refusing.

No way my county's giving any override codes to its general population.

They are some local sites all around the Bay Area that are only for designated communities (e.g. people of color, poor people, limited access to tech and/or medical care, etc.). Example: https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/east-palo-alto-opens-vaccination-clinic-for-residents-18-and-over/2509632/. Arguably, this has happened way too late for that community. And, there's https://www.sccgov.org/sites/covid19/Pages/press-release-03-05-2021-Eastridge-Mall-latest-COVID19-mass-vaccination-site.aspx.

If any such sites don't impose restrictions (e.g. essential work, pre-existing conditions , zip code, etc.), it is considered umm... shady to go there to get a vaccine unless they have leftovers or nobody there wants it.

Eh? I just scheduled. How am I to know if I'm being "shady"?

In Colorado they opened it up to everyone last Friday. I have an appointment on Saturday albeit an hour away in Colorado Springs. In a bit of a hurry as I have a Jury duty summons for May 3.

Certain sites have specific residency restrictions and you can't schedule them w/o a code. Unfortunately, the code sometimes spreads and non-eligible residents end up being able to schedule. This has made the news numerous times. Example: https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/race-for-a-vaccine/some-marin-county-residents-misuse-codes-for-vaccinations-at-oakland-coliseum-report/2476027/.

For others, I think some might be walk-in but are still intended for some areas that are impacted greatly by COVID and have low vax rates. I believe https://iccnc.org/news/2021/3/29/jv3dj0ajs7k7f3zap8r983hv1wote8 falls under that. Not being a resident there and taking advantage if there aren't extras can be shady...

There are a bunch of vaccine hunter FB groups and usually folks are pretty careful to point that out if someone posts about one of those. And, usually, people are good about not hosing the people those are intended for.

Well I didn't have any codes; I just went to http://myturn.ca.gov, answered the questions and chose a site that had an available slot for the J&J vaccine. So if there are any external intentions, I wasn't made aware of them. Maybe the supply has opened up enough; there were multiple sites with open appointments. Got one the first time I tried.

I had my second Moderna shot yesterday and felt fine. Feel like :| today. I think I'll go home and rest.

Good luck to everyone trying to find an appointment. Here in CO it seems to still be hit or miss. Like fishing, you just need to keep trying until you're successful.

Sorry you feel like crap. My wife is afraid of that and wants to wait until summer break from school before she gets hers. I found a number of appointments to the south I had a fair choice in Colorado Springs. Will get my first this Saturday. Some went to Pueblo. I only have time to drive that far on weekends and was too busy last weekend. My second shot will be May 1st. Maybe if I feel like crap they will kick me out of jury duty for May 3rd.

I always got hung up in the rocks or weeds, and quit.
Hoping that isn't what happens with the vaccine.

You're fine then. I answered honestly and today, My Turn still told me no, likely because of my county still restricting to 50+ (https://www.sccgov.org/sites/covid19/Pages/COVID19-vaccine-information-for-public.aspx).

Some counties like Contra Costa opened it up to 16+ awhile ago (https://cchealth.org/press-releases/2021/0330-Contra-Costa-Opens-Eligibility-to-those-16plus.php). I don't live nor work there so I can't qualify. Heck, I changed my answer on My Turn to Contra Costa and it still told me no. IIRC, some counties aren't set up correctly on My Turn and you have to go elsewhere to schedule. I think https://www.coronavirus.cchealth.org/get-vaccinated is right for CoCo.

I believe I also went to https://www.sccgov.org/sites/covid19/Pages/COVID19-vaccine-information-for-public.aspx to check to see if I could schedule an appointment for April 15+ since everyone 16+ is eligible then and it told me no, since I'm not 50+, don't have pre-existing conditions, etc.
