The CHAdeMo tally is:

Great news, no more jockeying for a LEAF QC charging spot, LEAFs now have exclusive use of the CHAdeMO outlets, which are in no danger of being removed anytime soon.

Well, them and all the Tesla’s on the road. Here in BC probably half the check ins on plug share are Tesla’s. And Chademo/ccs locations out number supercharger locations 10 to 1. The province is involved in most of them and they know that Tesla’s are huge users of Chademo. Unless Tesla comes out with a reasonable priced CCS adapter Chademo will continue to be the most used connector in the province. All the CCS cars on the road combined aren’t even close. Just a guess but I would say 80 percent of the EV’s here are Chademo compatible if you include Tesla’s. Like I say. That can change quick with a reasonably priced CCS adapter.

Don't forget the worlds best-selling PHEV, well it was at one point not too long ago, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, I assume the newest US models are still CHAdeMO?

It's only a 13.8 kWh battery, it won't use the DCFC for long. I'd be curious to know how many PHEV drivers bother with DCFC considering it costs more with l2. I see them charge at the office (l2) but never seen one on a DCFC yet.

All Teslas Model S and beyond can use their CHAdeMO adapter. Besides some folks in my area on "TMC" who use it, I've personally witnessed a Model X driver use it in the last 6 months and a Model 3 driver in the past week.

I've been getting free or heavily discounted (75% off EVgo prices or free is when I take it) via https://drivethearc.com/. It's for DC FCing only. The discounting ended on 2/1/21 but the two reservation stations are still free and probably will be until 2/27/21. I used both reservation stations to DC FC for free this past weekend.

There are two local DC FCs that are 19 cents/kWh but unfortunately have been broken for nearly 2 months now. They're priced the same as the J1772 L2 EVSEs at the same location. I've used both the DC FCs and L2's there.

I've gotten some free DC FCing elsewhere, as well.

I live in the center of the densest concentrations of Tesla's in the world, and have never been shut out by a Tesla.

Yeah I have a lot of Tesla, Leaf, and Soul EV miles under my belt and I’ve never seen a Tesla use one of these adapters. I have also never felt the need to buy one myself.

I just don’t consider Tesla drivers in supercharger deserts using $500 adapters to be the savior of CHAdeMO in the US. Tesla is launching the CCS adapter in Korea this quarter and if that makes its way to the US I can’t imagine anyone using the enormous CHAdeMo contraption.

Hell even Nissan has gone with CCS for the Ariya. Stick a fork in CHAdeMO in the US, it’s done.

The CHAdeMO adapter is now $400 (https://shop.tesla.com/product/chademo-adapter), down from $450.

I already pointed to 4 people in the SF Bay Area (NOT a Supercharger desert) who used the Tesla CHAdeMO adapter. In fact, at two of the DC FC sites w/CCS and CHAdeMO, there are Tesla Superchargers just a few miles away. DTA was free or discounted. 19 cents/kWh (https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/chademo-charging-the-model-3.160882/page-8#post-4983337 at the broken for two months DC FCs now) is cheaper than the nearby Superchargers (https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/chademo-charging-the-model-3.160882/page-8#post-4983575 and https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/chademo-charging-the-model-3.160882/page-10#post-5096609).

That said, as I've said before, CHAdeMO in the US is likely toast now and will probably be in a decline w/fewer companies electing install an even ratio of CCS vs. CHAdeMO. I'm not sure if they'll stack it as badly as VW-owned EA for awhile...

As the major charging providers have reaffirmed several times, they have no intention of discontinuing their CHAdeMO service. They have reaffirmed that as long as there are paying customers, they will be there to serve them.

Different places would be affected different ways. In BC if you got rid of Chademo it would essentially shut off access to about half the province to about 2/3 or more of the EV fleet of the province. We are a socialist province and Provincial utility (BC Hydro) which is owned by the people is the primary installer of DCFC in the province. They also coordinate other companies like Petro Canada and Electrify Canada. The BC government is big on EV’s. I’m sure they won’t be stopping support for Chademo any time soon. Over 10 percent of vehicles sold in this province are EV’s, and the majority are Chademo compatible.

Jmho.

I think the death of Chademo is greatly overstated. Is Canada starting any V2G trials? There are a few starting in the US over last 6 months.

Anyone know of anyone that has purchased a 2021 yet?
