Given what we're seeing with the latest packs, the 40kwh batteries would be fine for typical Leafs, and the 62kwh packs would give those who need it a 200+ mile range, with a bit of extra work. Leafs in Hot climates should of course be traded rather than upgraded. If the electronics can be solved then the LEAF world needs 3rd party packs.
As a firm advocate of 1.5 cars in my household, I would be really happy to know that my 24 kWh LEAF could be revitalized up to ~ 40 kWh pack for ~ $5,000 every 5 years or thereabouts.LeftieBiker wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 5:30 amGiven what we're seeing with the latest packs, the 40kwh batteries would be fine for typical LeafsIf the electronics can be solved then the LEAF world needs 3rd party packs.
No ... it's the amount I think I would agree to pay. A higher amount would push me to car replacement. My wife and I chatted about it a little this morning. Despite her tendency to want to stay with what she knows, and our preference in general to re-use rather than add to the garbage heap, we both recognize that newer cars have warranty, improved safety, improved reliability, additional features and conveniences, and newer car improved performance. The newer car also does not carry the risk of the replacement pack having un-warrantied problems or a sunk cost if a repair pops up that is too expensive to pay.LeftieBiker wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 11:57 amThis $5000 figure for 40kwh packs seems to be quoted to make it impossible.
