The StreetScooters have a 905 kg payload and an eight-meter cube box, enabling Milk & More to carry 860 pints of milk at a time, as well as an extensive range of locally sourced products from bacon and bread to cereals and juice. The new floats have a 40 kWh battery pack supporting a range of up to 75 miles. Economical to run, in the first month of operation, Milk & More has seen a 90% reduction on operational fuel costs, versus the outgoing diesel vehicles.

The StreetScooters are all left-hand drive, enabling milkmen and women to get in and out of the milk floats on the curbside. Milk & More is likely to add to the 200 StreetScooters it has already purchased as it seeks to further increase its fleet of electric milk floats later in the year.

Built on FCCC’s MT platform, the MT50e will feature a Proterra battery system with 226 kWh of energy capacity and an all-electric drive system. The all-electric chassis can support a GVWR of 16,000 to 23,000 pounds, with no reduction in cargo volume capacity. The vehicle is designed to enable more than 125 miles (201 km) driving range and can fully charge in three hours with SAE J1772 CCS DC fast charging. . . .

Launched as a prototype at the 2019 Work Truck Show, the MT50e is the first planned product in what will be a portfolio of all-electric products for a variety of vocations including pick-up and delivery, baker and linen vocations.


FedEx and Chanje to add charging infrastructure to 42 FedEx stations in California

. . . FedEx announced the addition of 1,000 Chanje V8100 electric delivery vehicles to its fleet last November. (Earlier post.) FedEx is purchasing 100 of the vehicles from Chanje Energy Inc. and leasing 900 from Ryder System, Inc.

The new agreement will provide an infrastructure to support the continued rollout of its electric vehicle fleet. . . .

Notable features include:

  • Higher maximum power output than standard Level 2 chargers;

    Variable rate technology allowing FedEx to proactively adjust charging speed or shift energy usage away from peak hours to minimize electric utility bills;

    DC (direct current) charging hardware, which is 10% more efficient than AC (alternating current) charging; and

    Software platform for remote monitoring and real-time charger controls.

Chanje Energy Inc. will begin production of the EVs later this year. The vehicles are manufactured by FDG Electric Vehicles Limited in Hangzhou, China, and purchased through Chanje Energy Inc., the company’s subsidiary for global business. They will be delivered on a rolling basis over the next year. Ryder System, Inc. will provide maintenance and distribution support services for all of the vehicles. . . .

The Irizar Group is committed to investing in alternative sources of energy and large-scale European projects. It manufactures its own batteries and even provides them with a second life, allowing them to be reused once they have come to the end of their useful life cycle in buses.

The municipal company ICB is the largest bus company in Frankfurt. It runs a fleet of 162 low-emission buses, transporting more than 31 million passengers each year. The City of Frankfurt am Main is pursuing the goal of operating all bus traffic by 2030 with alternative drive types.

Omnitrans of San Bernardino Valley, California has placed a new order for four 40' battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE heavy-duty transit buses. . . .

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) passed the Innovative Clean Transit Regulation in December 2018, which requires transit agencies to transition their fleets to zero-emission technologies by 2040. Since 2000, New Flyer has delivered 300 buses to Omnitrans, which currently operates more than 175 forty-foot and sixty-foot compressed natural gas (CNG) transit buses from New Flyer.

A $1.45 million federal grant in 2017 supported the city’s purchase of its first four electric buses, while a $2.6-million federal grant in 2019 supported the replacement of six older diesel buses with new electric models.

Each bus is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 100-160 tons per year, compared to a traditional clean diesel bus.

New Flyer has delivered nearly 30 buses to StarTran since 2014, beginning with compressed natural gas buses and recently adding zero-emission Xcelsior CHARGE buses to the StarTran fleet.

Daimler Trucks has launched additional electric Freightliner trucks for customer testing in North America. The Customer Experience (CX) fleet from Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) consists of six heavy-duty Freightliner eCascadia and two medium-duty Freightliner eM2 106.

Over a period of 22 months, 14 different customers from a range of sectors will operate the all-electric trucks within their daily transport business. These customers are some of the largest fleet owners in the USA representing more than 150,000 heavy- and medium-duty trucks (Class 6-8) on US roads.

The CX test fleet complements the innovation fleet of 30 Freightliner eTrucks which, since 2018, have been in operation and recently surpassed more than 160,000 cumulative kilometers. The market launch for both the Freightliner eCascadia and the eM2 truck is scheduled for late 2021. . . .

The batteries are planned to provide 550 kWh usable capacity, support a range of up to 250 miles and have the ability to charge up to 80% (providing a range of 200 miles) in about 90 minutes. The Class 8 tractor is designed for local and regional distribution and drayage.

The Freightliner eM2 is intended for local distribution operations and last-mile delivery services (class 6, 26,000 lb. GCWR). The eM2 truck is planned to have up to 480 peak horsepower. The batteries are planned to provide 325 kWh of usable capacity, a range of up to 230 miles and have the ability to charge up to 80% (providing a range of 184 miles) in about 60 minutes. . . .

The Chinese company is not totally new in Ecuador, as it already sold 37 electric taxis in 2017 (in the southern city of Loja) and 20 electric buses in 2019.

. . . The 580 EV is powered by a 480-volt, 90 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged by any 220-volt/three-phase connection. While applications will vary, each charge will support most common eight-hour workdays. The battery separately powers the drivetrain and hydraulic motors, resulting in hydraulic breakout forces equal to diesel-powered machines and improved performance during simultaneous loader and drivetrain operation.

Two units have already been sold to utilities in the United States: NYSEG and RG&E, AVANGRID companies, and National Grid. CASE has the capability to produce additional units throughout 2020 before ramping up production to meet greater demand in following years. . . .

Electrification was performed in conjunction with Green Machine Equipment, Inc. and Moog Inc., and with direct input from utilities and other businesses focused on converting significant portions of their fleets to fully electric backhoes. CASE also partnered with Michelin to outfit the first-of-its-kind machine with specialized MICHELIN CrossGrip tires for even greater efficiency and handling. . . .

While the 580 EV will be sold at a higher initial price than diesel-powered backhoe loaders, it is estimated that average fleets will see a payback on that premium in roughly five years. Renault Trucks starts serial production of its electric trucks

Renault Trucks is beginning serial production of its D and D Wide Z.E. electric trucks (earlier post) in its Blainville-sur-Orne plant in Normandy. The factory, which has been operating since 1957, specializes in the production of medium-duty vehicles and truck cabins; 240 cabins are made every day and 72 distribution trucks are assembled. . . .

The Renault Trucks D and D Wide Z.E. are assembled on the same line as the equivalent diesel models. At the end of the assembly line, the electric trucks are returned to the Z.E. building for the technicians to carry out additional technical operations and quality tests.

In total, 50 hours of work is required to manufacture an electric truck. Renault Trucks predicts that electric vehicles will represent 10% of its sales volume by 2025.

Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. has ordered 25 of Ballard’s new 70 kilowatt heavy-duty FCmove HD fuel cell modules. These 25 modules will power 15 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses planned for deployment in Cologne, Germany and 10 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses planned for deployment in Wuppertal, Germany, all under the Joint Initiative For Hydrogen Vehicles Across Europe (JIVE 2) funding program.

The Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen model Fuel Cell Electric Bus (FCEB)—capable of traveling 350 kilometers (217 miles) on a single hydrogen refueling—was introduced in 2019. (Earlier post.). The bus incorporates an axle with two electric motors and is equipped with a climate control system utilizing heat generated by the fuel cell module.

Shipments of the 25 FCmove-HD modules to Solaris will begin in 2020 and extend into 2021 to match the timing for the bus builds and deployments. . . .
 
Haven't been posting links cause I'm using my phone and haven't figured out how, but GCC has an article whose title is "Loop Energy receives fuel- cell range-extender order for transit buses in Nanjing." Gist is that they want to replace their fleet of 7,000 BEV buses with PHFCEVs to improve range, all-weather ops and capacity.

As the first phrase of the project, the consortium plans to launch the world’s first zero-emission electric tanker, powered by large-capacity lithium ion batteries, in March 2022. The number of available and announced models of zero-emission trucks, buses and off-road equipment in the United States and Canada is on track to rise nearly 78% by the end of 2020 compared to year-end 2019, according to the Zero-Emission Technology Inventory (ZETI), a product of CALSTART’s Global Commercial Vehicle Drive to Zero program.

That figure is expected to more than double by 2023. By the end of 2020, there will be 169 different zero-emission (ZE) medium- and heavy-duty vehicle models in commercial production compared to 95 models in 2019. That figure is expected to increase to 195 models by 2023. . . .

Drive to Zero’s goal is to make ZE commercial vehicles commercially viable by 2025 and dominant by 2040 in specific vehicle segments and regions through a strategy, the Beachhead Strategy, designed to catalyze the ZE commercial vehicle segment. . . .

CARB and CEC staff are developing a joint grant funding opportunity solicitation that will provide up to $20 million from CARB’s fiscal year (FY) 2019-20 Funding Plan for Clean Transportation Incentives for large scale deployments of zero-emission Class 8 trucks and up to $20 million from the CEC’s Clean Transportation Program funds for equipment and infrastructure to support those vehicles.

The goal of this zero-emission drayage truck and infrastructure pilot project is to fund large-scale deployments of 50 or more Class 8 zero emission trucks per fleet to assess the ability of vehicle manufacturers to produce large numbers of zero-emission Class 8 trucks and to assess the ability of fleets to recharge or refuel large numbers of trucks on a daily basis in revenue service.



Vienna testing Solaris hydrogen bus

Wiener Linien, one of the biggest public transport operators in Europe, has added a hydrogen Solaris bus (earlier post) to its fleet for testing until 12 June. Since the première of the hydrogen bus in June last year, Solaris has been awarded orders from the Netherlands, Germany and Italy for 57 buses in total.

The first vehicles will make it to Bolzano, Cologne and Wuppertal by the end of this year.

The Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses use a set of fuel cells with a power of 70 kW. The hydrogen is stored in gaseous form in five new-generation tanks mounted on the bus roof. The set of type 4 composite tanks (of the latest generation available on the market), placed longitudinally above the first axle of the vehicle, has a total volume of 1560 liters.

The bus is also fitted with a Solaris High Power battery acting as an additional electric power storage facility. . . .
 
Nikola (NKLA), EV tuck company, begins stock trading.

VectoIQ Acquisition, a blank check company led by former GM execs and focused on the smart transportation industry, disclosed on Tuesday that virtually all shareholders voted to approve the pending acquisition of hydrogen-powered electric truck startup Nikola Corp. Currently listed on the Nasdaq under the symbol VTIQ, the company is expected to begin trading on the Nasdaq under its new ticker NKLA on Thursday, June 4.

Nikola expects to generate revenue by 2021 with the roll-out of its BEV truck, followed by FCEV truck sales starting in 2023 and the initial build out of hydrogen fueling stations to serve Nikola customers' fleets, such as Anheuser-Busch. The company states that it has more than 14,000 pre-orders representing more than $10 billion in potential revenue over two and a half years of production.
